Principal's Report

Term 3, Week 3

Dear St FX Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Week 3! I hope you have all settled into a nice rhythm for Term 3 and are experiencing a smooth start to the term so far.

Parent Teacher Meetings - Week 3

This week, we are hosting Parent Teacher Meetings to offer families the chance to come in and chat about their child’s learning progress to date and the direction for learning across the coming semester. If you missed the opportunity to book-in a time to see your child’s teacher, please feel welcome to contact the St FX Office to organise a mutually convenient time.

Welcome Fr Paul Anthony Aguilar!

This week marks a fortnight of Fr Paul being in Narrabri to serve as Parish Priest of the St Francis Xavier’s Parish. I met with Fr Paul last week to meet and welcome him to our parish, and to talk about our wonderful school. Once settled into his role, Fr Paul looks forward to coming into our school so we can give him a big St FX welcome! We will see Fr Paul this Thursday as we gather for a Whole School Mass  to celebrate the Feast of Australia’s first saint, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. This Mass will commence at 12pm and will be celebrated in St Francis Xavier’s Church.

E-Safety on Online Games

Just a reminder for our parents and carers to take an active interest in supervising the games their child/ren are engaging with online. Many online games have functions where participants can ‘befriend’ others, which is problematic in the online safety world when children don’t necessarily have a strong grasp on the dangers associated with this. Young children have a developing understanding of 'stranger danger' in the physical world, but don't always apply the same understanding in the online space. Other parents have been shocked to find their children engaging in online games with chat functions - either typed or verbal - and the offensive or inappropriate language witnessed during gaming sessions. Please continue to supervise your child’s movements online and encourage all online activity to take place in family/common areas of your house. The Australian Government has created more information for parents about gaming and helping your child manage the risks. Please visit https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/issues-and-advice/gaming for more information about this.

P&F Meeting - Wednesday 7th August, 5:30pm

Our next P&F meeting will be this coming Wednesday, 7th August, at 5:30pm. We welcome any new or old faces so you can hear about upcoming plans for the P&F and to share ways and possible opportunities for us to help strengthen the St Francis Xavier’s family community.
