đ Hoop Time Heroes at Diamond Valley đ
Â
On Wednesday 2 September, four Heidelberg PS teams headed to the Diamond Valley Sports Centre to compete in the District Hoop Time Competition. It was a fantastic day of basketball, with all four teams showing great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Â
The two boysâ teams had mixed results, with the Heidelberg Hornets enjoying plenty of success on the court. The Hornets topped their pool to qualify for the semi-final against the second-placed team from Pool 1.
Â
The semi-final got off to a frustrating start, with a slow opening and some wayward passing allowing RGL to race out to an early six-point lead. By half-time, the boys had worked hard to reduce the deficit to just four points.
Â
They came out firing in the second half, piling on the pressure and making life difficult for RGL. Despite creating plenty of opportunities, the Hornets couldn't quite find the scoreboard first. As the clock ticked down, the boys began to feel the pressure and some rushed shots went astray. Then, with just under a minute remaining, Tom M stepped up from well outside the three-point line and calmly swished a miraculous shot to cut the deficit!
Â
Unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough, with the Hornets falling just three points short of a place in the Grand Final. Despite the result, the boys should be incredibly proud of their effort and the way they fought right until the final siren.
Â
Our girlsâ team, made up of a mix of Grade 3 and 4 students, certainly proved that size isn't everything! One of the shorter teams in the competition, the girls consistently fought above their height and showed tremendous determination throughout the day.
Â
The girls won three games and lost just two, with their losses coming against teams featuring considerably taller players. Their results earned them a spot in the Grand Final against RGL.
Â
The girls knew they had a huge challenge ahead, having lost to RGL by 28 points in their earlier pool match. However, they showed just how much they had improved throughout the day. Despite eventually going down again, the girls competed much more strongly and significantly reduced the margin.Â
Â
It was a fantastic effort from all four Heidelberg PS teams. Congratulations to everyone who represented our school and showed such great teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day!đđ
Â
A big thank you to Simon Walsh for coaching the girls team

Â
Our 12 Boys team of Charlie M, Miles HB, Otis B and Patrick HB also finished 2nd. The race was neck-and-neck right down the final 100 metres, with our boys eventually missing out on 1st place by just nine hundredths of a second!
