Wellbeing

Term 4, Week 11 - IDPWD

As a whole-school, we celebrated the International Day of People Living with a Disability on Monday December 16th, for our final Wellbeing Day.  Although the official day was December 3rd, this was an important day to celebrate as a whole-school to end the year. The day was filled with buddy catchups, activities and sharing stories about different people in our community who live with a disability.

As part of the day, we had a guest speaker at our assembly who spoke about their experiences as somebody living with a disability (Down Syndrome). As a former student of Old Orchard and having just finished high school, Harry Sencek talked about his achievements, memories of Old Orchard, high school experiences, and hopes for the future. Students listened to Harry respectfully, and our S.R.C. Captains (Avina and Ishaan) did a wonderful job interviewing him to help share his story.

The day was full of learning about disabilities, catching up with our buddies and completing activities with students and teachers from across the school. As part of the Wellbeing Day, we also ran our Pear Reward, where students got to choose an activity to complete with a teacher of their choice.

Throughout the year, we have celebrated and learnt about Harmony Day, NAIDOC Week, RUOK? Day and The International Day of People Living with Disabilities. These days have been excellent opportunities to celebrate different groups in our community, regroup as a class and cohort, see our buddies, and experience some incredible Dojo Pear Rewards. Thanks to everyone who has been involved in our Wellbeing Days throughout the year, and we look forward to these continuing in 2025.
