SPEAKING AND LISTENING

The updated Victorian Curriculum 2.0 places a stronger focus on Speaking and Listening, recognising the vital role of oral language in learning and communication across the curriculum.

At POPS, students across all year levels are developing the skills to speak clearly, listen actively, and communicate with purpose. They learn to adjust their speaking for different audiences and situations, whether giving a speech, taking part in a discussion, or explaining their thinking.

Currently, our Year 3/4 students are preparing to present their information reports on endangered animals, while our Year 5/6 students are filming their entries for the Victorian Parliamentary Prize, demonstrating persuasive speaking and writing.

In the junior years, students build confidence through activities like show and tell, sharing time, and classroom conversations. These experiences lay strong foundations for effective communication now and in the future.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

Congratulations to Mia A (4P) and Harper S (4/5G) who played representative basketball over the long weekend. They play together for the Warrandyte Venom U12 girls team, which competed in the McDonald's Ballarat Junior Basketball Tournament. Their team made it to the grand final and finished as runners-up. Mia and Harper played brilliantly and showed excellent teamwork and sportsmanship. Here's a photo of them with their runners-up medals.

Congratulations to Judd H (4P) on an outstanding achievement at today’s Regional Cross Country held at the Yarra Valley Racecourse! Judd placed 18th out of 89 competitors, completing the 2km course in an impressive time of 8 minutes and 52 seconds. Well done, Judd, we’re proud of you!

Please share with the school community your

ATTENDANCE

Coming to school every day and on time sets students up for success. While we understand that illness and unexpected events can cause absences, regular attendance is vital for learning, building friendships, and staying connected socially and emotionally.

Mrs Debono, our Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader, is working closely with teachers and families to support students who may be facing challenges with attendance. Every day counts, and we’re here to help ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive. Please contact your child's teacher, Mrs Debono or me if you would like assistance or support for your child with attending school.

Warm regards,

Ms Garrity
