Mr Matt Elson

Hello Gympie East parents, carers and community,

It is great to be back for another term of school. Term 2 is always our busy term, but it is great to see students hit the ground running and focussing on their learning leading up to report cards at the end of term. A reminder that there is no school on Monday 4th of May due to the Labour Day holiday.

As a school, we are focussed on Vocabulary and Reading. This week in our Staff Meeting, each teacher shared a learning that they have made this year and how this has improved their teaching practice. It was inspiring to listen to our teachers learning from each other on the ways they are incorporating new learnings with their pre-existing knowledge and expertise. Over the next fortnight, I am looking forward to observing lessons from our teachers and watching how students engage with their learning for an entire lesson.

In PBL this week, we have focussed on 'Reporting Issues'. If there are issues in the classroom or playground then it is important to report these. This is very different from 'dobbing' and its important to teach the difference to our students. If there are problems or issues, then class teachers should know about them and we want students to feel comfortable to report them. Next week we will focus on 'Walk on steps and pathways'. Gympie East is a busy place, and running on concrete is not a safe practice. We have lots of grassed areas where it is safe to run on, but in and around buildings is not the place.

Chicken Coop

Voting is officially CLOSED, and the results are in! After all votes were carefully counted, we’re excited to announce that with an impressive 44% of the primary vote, we have a winner… drum roll pleaseCluckingham Palace!

A huge thank you to Gympie Hearing for supporting this wonderful addition to our school. Stay tuned—we can’t wait to celebrate with a grand opening very soon!

P&C

Congratulations to our P&C who have been successful in gaining a Gambling Grant to replace one of our Prep Playgrounds. This is excellent news and we are very thankful to Mrs Kellie Rogers who is an expert at writing grants.

A huge thankyou to Mrs Megan McCarthy who volunteered to take on the Vice-President role with the P&C. We appreciate you putting your hand up as we know how busy you are with your own family's commitments.

We are struggling though with getting parents to P&C meetings. We must have at least 5 members to make a quorum (minimum number to hold a meeting). On Monday, we just had 5. This is not a sustainable number for us. Can I please urge parents to come along. It's not scary, we have a fun time and sit together planning what we are going to do and discussing how we can improve things for our children. We could look at changing the day and time. At the moment, the next meeting is on Monday 8th June at 3:30pm.
