Year 5

We are excited to share an update on what Grade 5 have been involved in this year. We have already enjoyed a fantastic start to the year, filled with engaging learning experiences, new challenges, and many opportunities for students to develop both academically and personally.

One of the highlights of Term 1 was our camp experience, where students demonstrated excellent teamwork, leadership, resilience, and independence. It was wonderful to see students step outside their comfort zones, support one another, and build stronger friendships through a range of fun and challenging activities..

In Stem, children have been learning about electricity with the aim of creating a device that could be used when there is no electricity available. They have been learning about how electricity was discovered, how it's generated and how it moves from power plants and arrives at our homes. They’ve particularly been loving creating circuits to power various different devices. We look forward to seeing what prototypes they come up with and who knows…Year 5 could be responsible for the next big invention.

CALM Youth Program – Year 5

We are pleased to let families know that our Year 5 students have recently commenced the CALM Youth program, an engaging initiative that supports student wellbeing, personal growth, and positive social development. The program will take place across five weeks, with students attending one session per week, each running for approximately one hour.

CALM Youth is a Melbourne-based organisation that works with schools to provide programs aimed at building confidence, resilience, leadership skills, and positive character traits in young people. Through supportive mentoring and meaningful discussions, students are encouraged to develop important life skills in a safe and inclusive environment.

CALM stands for Composure, Ambition, Leadership and Mentality, highlighting the program’s focus on emotional awareness, positive decision-making, respectful relationships, and developing a growth mindset. The program complements our school curriculum, particularly within the Personal and Social Capability area, by helping students strengthen their self-awareness, emotional regulation, communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills through authentic learning experiences.

The CALM Youth facilitators are experienced mentors and educators who are skilled in working with primary-aged students. Sessions are designed to be interactive, engaging, and reflective, encouraging students to build confidence, develop resilience, make positive choices, and foster healthy peer connections. We look forward to seeing the ongoing benefits of this program as our Year 5 students continue to grow socially, emotionally, and personally.

Throughout the year, students have continued to embrace learning with enthusiasm. From collaborative projects and hands-on activities to creative and engaging lessons, Grade 5 has been a place where learning is both meaningful and enjoyable. We look forward to continuing this journey together and providing many more exciting opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and shine
