                      Foundation ‘Fire Safe Kids’ Incursion

Wow! There’s a fire truck at school!

Last Friday, the Foundation students were lucky enough to have a visit from the Somerville C.F.A as part of the ‘Fire Safe Kids’ Education Program.

The incursion began with a session in the classroom led by firefighters. The students were taught about what to do if there is a fire; the need to get out, find a safe place and call for help. They also became more familiar with firefighters and their role in the community, as well as the uniform they wear when attending a fire emergency.

The second part of the incursion was conducted out on the oval where the fire truck was parked. As we walked to the fire truck, the lights and siren were activated. The siren and lights startled both the teachers and students. There were a variety of feelings from the children; some were nervous, some excited and some extremely confident. All the students were given the opportunity to squirt the hose and climb onto the fire truck.

Overall, the students loved the experience and enjoyed learning about ways they can stay safe if there is a fire. The students agreed the highlight of the incursion was definitely squirting the hose and climbing onto the enormous truck. A big thanks to the Somerville CFA; what a fantastic way to teach our students about fire education.
