News of the Week

Dear Parents and Friends,

Hello, and welcome back to Term 3! Can you believe we are already more than halfway through the year? We hope you all had a safe and happy holiday. This term is packed with lots of fun activities that not only the students, but also the teachers, are excited to take part in. Welcome back to school, and we hope you enjoy this week's newsletter! 

Foundation 100 Days Brighter

On Tuesday our Foundation Students celebrated 100 days at school.  Their theme this year was "100 Days Brighter" and the Foundation students and their teachers were so bright we nearly had to wear sunglasses. They had a fun filled day and will present to us at Assembly next Friday - 31st July at 2:15pm. We look foward to hearing all about their celebrations and what they have learnt.

Grandparents/Grand Friends Day - TOMORROW!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Grandparents' Day. For those who don't know what it is, it's a special day where you can bring your grandparents or another loved one to school. We will have lots of fun activities together, and when the students head off to class, the grandparents will stay behind to enjoy a morning tea. We are looking forward to seeing you all there! 

5/6 Girls Football

On Monday, July 20th, the Year 5 and 6 girls' football team competed at the district competition against three other schools: Springvale, Chelsea Heights, and Cheltenham.

The competition started at 9:00 am and finished at 12:00 pm. Although the St Brigid's girls' football team lost their games and didn't make it through to regionals, they tried their hardest, worked well as a team, and had lots of fun. Well done to all! 

Athletics Day - Wednesday 5th August

Another reminder for all students and parents that our Athletics Carnival is on Wednesday 5th of August at Dolomore Oval, Queen Street, Parkdale. Everyone has been preparing with the help of Mrs Richards, who teaches us every week. We have been practising long jump, shot put, hurdles, and triple jump. 

We need parent helpers in order to run the day (particularly in the Year 3 to Year 6 classes).  If you can assist please email Miss Richards - hrichards@sbmord.catholic.edu.au or contact the office.  We'd love to see you there!  

New Art Group

On Thursday, students from Years 3 to 6 were chosen to be part of the art group. We did lots of fun activities, including free drawing, making flowers, and many more. The art teacher was very kind and gave all of the students stickers at the end.

Year 6 Confirmation - Meeting the Episcopal Vicar

On Tuesday, the Year 6 students had the Episcopal Vicar come and talk to us about Confirmation and what would happen on the day. We talked about what Confirmation is and why the Sacrament is important. Father Andrew explained what would happen during the Confirmation ceremony, including the anointing and the laying on of hands.

NAIDOC Week

The 5th of July, was the start of a very important week called NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC Week celebrates the cultures, histories, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year's theme celebrates 50 years of NAIDOC. The word "deadly" is often used by many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to mean something amazing.

Aussie of the Month

Congratulations to Riley (3/4R):

Riley consistently demonstrates our Aussie of the Month values of mateship, inclusion, respect, and fair go. He thoughtfully checks in on his classmates, offers support when needed, and helps create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. His caring and gentle nature has a positive impact on those around him.

Light the Way Award

Congratulations to Oliver (1C):

Oliver is showing a strong commitment to learning by always trying his best in all areas. He is curious and eager to learn, regularly asking thoughtful questions, sharing his ideas, and contributing positively to class discussions. Well done, Oliver! Keep up the great work.

Congratulations to Violet (5/6F):

Violet is a courteous student who always strives to do her best in her learning. This year, she has demonstrated academic growth by approaching new learning with greater confidence and perseverance. She has also become more confident in interacting with her peers and working collaboratively in group activities. 

We Care Award

At Assembly on Friday Sandra presented her 'We Care' Award for Term 2.  Students are awarded a sticker throughout the term for their acts of kindness, helpfulness and using their initiative.  A prize is awarded to the boy and girl with the most stickers at the end of ther Term. TheirCare donates $50.00 on behalf of the We Care winners and the St Brigid's OHSC program each term to a chosen charity.  This Term the donation went to the Good Shepherd. Congratulations Poppy (5/6F), Annabelle (3/4H) - who came equal first, and Riley (3/4H) - we are really proud of you.
