From the Principal

Karen Roberts

Welcome to the beginning of Term 4, 2026. It is an 11 week term!

I hope you and your families had a wonderful and restful two-week break. It is lovely to welcome everyone back for another exciting term. I look forward to continuing to work together as a school community to support our students to achieve their very best and to ensure we have a successful and rewarding end of year.

Welcome to Our Administration Team

We are delighted to welcome Miley Tran to our Administration team. Miley will be learning a range of office roles and developing her knowledge of our school systems and processes. She has already shown a wonderful enthusiasm and eagerness to learn, and we are very much looking forward to having Miley here every day as part of our team.

Grade 6 Production – The Wizard of Oz

Our Grade 6 production of The Wizard of Oz was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate student talents and teamwork. It was great to see students take on new roles, step outside their comfort zones and demonstrate skills and abilities that we don’t always get to see in the classroom.

Productions like this provide opportunities for different students to shine, whether on stage or behind the scenes. It has also been pleasing to see students build confidence, work collaboratively and take responsibility for their roles.

A big thank you to our teachers for the time, expertise and commitment they have contributed, particularly those who have shared their own performing arts talents, aka Mr Sam Roberts, to bring the production together.

Congratulations to our Grade 6 students on their efforts and to our dedicated Grade 6 teachers Mr Lello, Mrs Cogan, Mrs Travers, Mr McCracken and everyone involved in making the production such a success.

A big Thank-You to you all.

(you can see some photos of the production later in this newsletter)

Front of School Enhancement

This week you will notice some work at the front of the school. We are revamping the front corner of the school and raising the school sign so it can be seen from the street. We’ll be undertaking some additional planting also.

Holiday Works

It was wonderful to return after the holiday break and see so much work completed across the school. Despite the challenges of completing work due to rain, we made significant progress in improving our facilities and creating a school environment we can all be proud of.

Drum roll, please…

Rear Basketball Court Resurfacing

Our rear basketball court has been completely resurfaced, thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of our PFA throughout 2025. This is a fantastic investment in our students and their opportunities to enjoy quality sporting and recreational facilities.

Freshly Painted Learning Spaces

Building 1 has received a significant refresh, with the interior of the Prep and Grade 1 classrooms and hallways freshly painted. A number of our portable classrooms have also been repainted, creating brighter, more welcoming learning environments.

New Lockers

New lockers have also been installed in four of our classrooms, providing improved storage and helping our learning spaces remain organised and functional.

Fencing Project Complete

The final stage of our school fencing project has now been completed, with a new rear fence and gate along Kokaribb Road. The project also includes a newly squared-off fence frontage at the Truganinini Road, Graceburn Avenue and Glenhuntly Road corner.

This marks the completion of a significant project to improve the safety, security and presentation of our school grounds.

Tree Works and the Safe Tree Program

Our arborist attended during the holidays to undertake works across the school as part of the Victorian Government's Safe Tree Program for Schools. All trees are audited annually, with works undertaken according to identified risk.

Two large elm trees at the front of the school were identified as high risk due to a combination of health, structural, pedestrian-safety and infrastructure concerns. Following assessment, these trees were removed to ensure the safety of our students, staff and community.

Other trees across the school grounds were also lopped and trimmed, including the gums, natives, mop tops and olive trees, helping to maintain the health, safety and presentation of our grounds.

Gym Windows

And finally, something that has been a long time coming — the high-level gym windows have been professionally cleaned for the first time since the gym was built! Our BM, Roxy, reviewed our contract to ensure it happened. Hats off to Roxy.

This was no small job and required the hire of a cherry picker to safely access the windows. The difference is fantastic and is another example of the ongoing work being undertaken to improve our school environment.

These holiday works represent another important step in our shared journey to instill school pride and ensure that Carnegie Primary School is a safe, welcoming and inspiring place for our students, staff and families.

A Little Extra for Our Gym

To add the icing to the cake, we are excited to announce that blinds will soon be installed in the gym. This will allow us to darken the space when needed, creating a more versatile environment for special events such as school productions, discos and assemblies. We look forward to making even greater use of this wonderful space!
