Stage 3 - Science Waterwheels
In Science, Stage 3 students explored the mechanics of overshot vertical waterwheels. After researching and designing their own models, they used materials from home to construct them. To test their designs, they used a hose to spin the wheels, observing how effectively they functioned. The students analysed material placement, structural strength, and overall performance. They all did a fantastic job and thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on testing process.
Initialit - Professional Development Workshop
Last week Mr Rottger, Miss Squire, Mrs Kahl and Mrs Conroy participated in a two day video conference workshop relating to the Initalit literacy program. The workshop was run by the Armidale Catholic Schools Office and included teachers from around the diocese.
InitiaLit is a comprehensive literacy program designed to develop essential early reading skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. It is introduced to students at the beginning of Kindergarten and continues through to Year 2.
The primary goal of the course was to equip our staff with effective strategies to support
students in reaching their full potential in reading and spelling. Additionally, it aimed to enhance the use of supplementary resources to reinforce learning and promote a consistent approach to literacy across all classrooms.
Chess Club with Mr Falkiner
The students have been enjoying taking part in Chess Club with Mr Falkiner!!
Primary students have been diving into exciting matches and friendly competition during the lunchtime activity. Mr Falkiner has been right there with them, enjoying the fun and letting the games unfold. He’s excited to open Chess Club to even more students soon and can’t wait to start teaching the game to new players!
In order to make Chess Club available to more players, Mr Falkiner is asking if anyone has any chess sets at home they would like to donate to our school to please drop them off to the school office.
Flute Ensemble Performance
Last Friday, at our Awards Assembly, we had the pleasure of hearing members of the St Francis Xavier's School Band perform as a flute ensemble. They played wonderfully accompanying the school in singing Advance Australia Fair.
