Principal's Report

Dear MPW families and friends,
Well done to our three students who represented MPW at swimming last week, Sophia, Alexander and Louis. Reaching the division level is a great achievement!
I will be heading off with the 5/6s to Camp Kookaburra this week. We head out on Tuesday morning and return Friday afternoon. This camp provides a great opportunity and experience to visit Echuca, as a day trip, where students learn about Victorian history through a Port tour and ride on a paddle steamer. Yes, we even briefly cross into NSW for a moment whilst travelling up the river. Having camp at the beginning of the year, provides time for team building and group bonding. This helps set the students up for a fun year together. I do enjoy getting on at least one camp each year to spend time with the staff and students in a context outside of the daily school life.
Thank you to Elisha, for running our Parent Helpers course last week. This session provides information and a guide to how parents can support in classrooms. Parent engagement and support ensures students can be further supported and engage in their learning experiences. We look forward to welcoming parents into classrooms and to support excursions and events as they occur throughout the year.
Learning to Learn
Over the first five to six weeks, our classes have been focussed on setting up their classroom and learning routines for a safe and orderly learning environment for 2025. Classes have been in discussion about their class Rights and Responsibilities, what good learning looks like, and how to transition from one learning task to another. All these routines are taught so that the class can spend the maximum time on learning. Ask your child about the Learning to Learn aspects of ‘what is a good learner or what is a good teacher?’. It is also important for students to know what makes a good lesson in any of the learning areas to allow for them to apply full effort.
Classes are finalising their Rights and Responsibilities for their class, based on our whole school rights to: learn, be respected, be included and be safe. Students discuss and agree to their responsibilities to help hold each other to account in these areas whilst at school. Rights and Responsibilities for each class are then presented and displayed in the administration building to celebrate these commitments.
Movie Night
The Movie Night is Friday 4th April, tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite.

You will have received a notification that we have had to change the movie. Unfortunately, public release date was extended for Sonic 3 into April. We have gone with our second option of Inside Out 2.
This is always a great night. Thank you to those supporting the organisation and running of the night.
NAPLAN
I would like to acknowledge our year 3 and 5 students who last week started their NAPLAN testing. It has been great to see the students’ positive attitude and effort they have shown toward these assessments, we have created a supportive environment where students see NAPLAN as just another classroom activity that gives them a chance to share their understandings and do their best. NAPLAN testing concludes on Monday 24th. All the best for the last couple of sessions this week.
We are in the third last week of the term, a reminder school concludes on Friday 4th April at 2.30pm. We hold our final assembly on Friday morning at 9:05am. There is no assembly on the Monday in the last week.
Regards,
Jarrod Sutton
