A Care-filled Christmas

This week is the beginning of Advent and the four weeks of preparation before Christmas. It is traditionally a time of waiting, praying, anticipating, giving and showing care to others. I have been reflecting on the theme of care this week.

As the year quickly draws to a close many of us get tired and stressed. We may become careless with our words and actions. That is understandable. And we might reason to ourselves that once holidays come, we will get refreshed, restored and regain our composure and our care.

But caring should be a year-round activity. What is the use of being kind and loving to others on one day of the year, if we are miserable and mean to them every other day? This year has given us much to celebrate, both at Living Waters, and I am sure in your own families. Take care to remember how much your kids have grown and how your family has been blessed.

St Paul writes, ‘Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity…’ (Ephesians 10:15-16).

At Christmas we are reminded of God’s care for the world, so much so that he sent his Son to be born among us. This is a story of unending love and unparalleled care. I pray that it inspires you to care about God’s story, to practice some self-care these holidays and to show care to the people around you. ‘Cast your cares on him, because he cares for you’ (1 Peter 5:7).

Advent blessings!

From the Principal

Werte,

Last night I addressed the graduating class of 2024:

God is wonderful.  In Psalm 139:14 King David declares, "I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well."  David's powerful affirmation of God's works are wonderful.  This declaration shows that God created with intention. Nothing created by God is mere happenstance.  God created people with a divine purpose.  He created them to be in a relationship with Him and each other.

It's easy to misunderstand the meaning of the words fearfully and wonderfully.  Fearfully and wonderfully is not about being afraid or being in a state of fright.  Instead, it means to hold in awe or reverence and to set apart for distinction.

God created people for a purpose.  No aspect of our creation is by chance.  God designed every cell in our bodies. Your bodies were designed to protect you and help you implement your gifts.  God's craftsmanship goes beyond the surface.  It runs to the centre of our being.  Every thought, emotion and every intricate detail of our personalities are woven together by God's divine hands.  We are each unique at Living Waters. We call this a spikey profile, meaning we are talented in different ways.  We have a blend of strengths and weaknesses which we use to fulfill our callings.  God designed us to walk in good works which he prepared beforehand.

Consider the talents and gifts that distinguish you.  Whether it be the ability to create, inspire, lead or comfort.  These are not accidental traits, but intentional endowments crafted by a master artist.

Remember we are in awe of you, and we are always with you.  You are the graduating class of 2024.  You have been called not to save the world, but to serve it.  To model freedom with responsibility.  To build relationships based on love.  To share your hearts and protect other's hearts.  You have the opportunity to contribute something great.  We will be, like God, with you always.  Be who you were made to be!

Thanks to our community for your support this year.  As we celebrate the end of the school year give us gratitude for the learning we have done, for the talents and abilities we have shared.  We wish you a safe and happy Christmas!

Blessings,

Mrs Goldsworthy
