Principal Update
Thursday 31 July 2025
Dear Families, Students and Community Members,
Welcome back! I hope you all had a relaxing break with your favourite people, and that you have settled easily back into Term 3.
You will be well aware that over the last twelve months we have had a focus on how we intentionally meet the needs of our students through exceptional Teaching & Learning.
A key part of this work was the creation of our Positive Behaviours for Learning Matrix, an evidence based framework to support the behaviours that we as a school community knew would make Mordialloc College an even better place to learn.
The framework was created by staff and students, with the desired outcome of showcasing what we wanted to see from every member of the Mordialloc College community: students, staff and families. We have tried hard to keep our matrix jargon free, easy to refer to, and reflective of the families that make up our wonderful Mordialloc College community.
As we move forward, we will be inviting families to engage with this work, and I will be really interested to know what you need from us to support your understanding of the matrix.
For Term 3, we will be having a sharp focus on how established routines support positive learning, for example punctuality, using the Compass Lesson Plans to come to lessons prepared to learn, and staying on task during the lesson.
We believe that teaching these behaviours is an important foundation in embedding Positive Behaviours for Learning, and I am always grateful for the support that our families provide in also having high expectations around those behaviours.
Mordialloc College & Merindah-Gunya Mural
Throughout Semester 1, Merinda-Gunya, a local artist and proud Peek Whurrong woman, worked with our Aboriginal students, and student leaders to design an Aboriginal mural for our College.
The final design represents our shared journey through school, reflecting themes of growth, connection, and cultural identity. It is a symbol of community, learning, respect and will be officially unveiled in a special ceremony later this year. This mural will remain for many years, and it was amazing to see so many of our students watch it come to life.
Students involved in painting included Leo W, Samuel G, Jack H and Ewan L.
Student leaders who supported on the day and also helped with the final design were Vincent L, Zed D, and Anoushka J.
A huge thank you to Merinda-Gunya, and to our students for creating something so genuinely wonderful for our college community to enjoy for years to come.
Also a big thank you to Julia Hockey for bringing this all together so successfully.
Drama Performance Invite
Our Drama Club has been working hard to create a community piece that they would love you to attend. We ask for a prompt 7pm start, and aim to be finished by 9pm.
It would be great to see as many members of our wider Mordialloc College community attending this event, and supporting our Performing Arts Program.
A huge thank you to Bella Kennedy and Claire Bruce for their continued passionate support of our Drama Club students.
Looking forward to a great Term 3!
