Co-Curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

This week’s article comes from the Junior School Debating Team.

At St Patrick’s College Strathfield, co-curricular activities are where legends are made and homework excuses are born. Whether you’re scoring tries, performing on stage, playing music, or joining a club, there’s something for everyone. And then there’s debating. The only co-curricular activity in which you can defeat someone without leaving your chair! Debaters spend hours mastering the art of sounding smart, confidently arguing things they didn’t even believe five minutes earlier, and somehow turning “Should homework exist?” into a 15-minute speech worthy of the United Nations. It’s basically intellectual MMA, except with blazers and fewer hospital visits.

Getting involved in co-curricular activities means making mates, building confidence, and creating stories you'll never forget. One day you're joining a team to “try something new,” and the next you're representing the College, standing in front of a crowd, wondering why you thought public speaking was a good idea. Sport teaches resilience; music teaches dedication, and debating teaches you how to win an argument so convincingly that your parents start questioning their own rules. At St Patrick’s, co-curricular activities transform ordinary students into confident leaders, talented performers, and highly trained debaters who can explain with alarming confidence why being five minutes late is being five minutes early.

Remember, school is not only about assessments, tests and trying to remember where you put your timetable – it is also about discovering your strengths and building skills for the future. So, when you look back at your time at SPC, it won’t be the homework or the lessons you’ll remember; it will be the fun you had while undertaking co-curricular activities and the friends you made. Those are the memories that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Student Orbit App

Last Friday, Dr Lavorato launched the new Student Orbit App for all boys. It is of great importance that boys download the app onto their phone, especially for co-curricular information. Like the Parent Orbit App for parents/carers, the Student Orbit App will serve as the primary platform for all Junior School Co-Curricular announcements. The current SPC App will be shut down by the beginning of Term 3. It should be straight forward to download, via either Google Play or the App Store.

We look forward to the Years 5 and 6 House Athletics Carnival tomorrow on Breen Oval. A reminder that parents/carers are welcome to spectate, sitting on the bench seats on the Fraser Street side of the oval. There is no shade on that side of the oval, so please come prepared for all weather conditions. There is no training on Thursday afternoon after the carnival.

I have been made aware that the links to the Junior School Justice Podcasts have not been working for many people. Please see the attached link for your listening pleasure. We believe that all technical matters have now been resolved.
