Years 3 and 5 NAPLAN 2026
The NAPLAN assessments will be taking place from 11th - 23rd of March this year. As part of the National Protocols for Test Administration (Online), it is a requirement that students have an opportunity to become familiar with the format and question types contained in the NAPLAN Online tests. In the lead up to NAPLAN, Years 3 and 5 students will participate in practice tests which will help them to become familiar with the test format, language, response types and technology experienced in each component of the assessment.
Writing Tests and an Omnibus Test, covering Language Conventions, Reading and Numeracy will be completed in class. Please note that the Year 3 writing assessment is conducted in a pencil and paper format.
For further information, including access to the public demonstration site, please refer to this important information page for parents and carers.
NAPLAN 2026 information for parents and carers (online)
Our intended NAPLAN assessment schedule is included in today's Principal Report and has been posted on Compass to Year 3 and 5 families.
At Footscray West Primary School, we encourage all students to participate. We will make contact with families where the Wellbeing Team have documentation regarding a disability that permits an adjustment to enable the NAPLAN to be undertaken.
Please contact Assistant Principal, Carolyn Lockie, should you have any further questions about your child’s participation.
Behind the Screens by Niraj Lal and and Aśka
We are delighted to share that Niraj Lal – researcher, writer, presenter of the ABC Kids podcast Imagine This, and a valued parent in our Footscray West Primary School community – has recently published a new book designed to support young people in navigating today’s digital world.
With the involvement of some of our former students, this book explores important ideas about social media and highlights key considerations for young people when interacting online. It offers practical guidance and thoughtful insights, making it a valuable resource for families wanting to better understand the opportunities and challenges of the digital landscape.
The book is available at our local bookshop and can be used alongside the Inform and Empower program currently being implemented at our school to support students in staying safe and confident online.
We congratulate Niraj on this wonderful achievement and thank him for contributing so positively to our school community.
