PRINCIPAL'S REPORT:

DIVISIONAL SWIMMING CARNIVAL AT SWAN HILL:

Congratulations to all students who have taken part in sporting events over recent weeks. At the Divisional Swimming Carnival at Swan Hill, our students competed strongly against representatives from other schools. Their efforts resulted in several placed finishes, with some swimmers now progressing to the Loddon Mallee Regional Swimming Carnival.

A special congratulations to Amaya, who was awarded Age Division Champion—an outstanding achievement. Placegetters on our Sporting News page.

ANNUAL IMPLEMENTATION PLAN UPDATE:

As part of our ongoing school improvement work, I’d like to share an overview of our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP). The AIP is developed each year using our previous year’s performance data and the goals set out in our four‑year Strategic Plan. Each plan focuses on two key areas: Learning and Wellbeing.

Our 2025 Performance Report highlighted excellent results for Kerang Technical High School. This year, our focus is on maintaining these strong outcomes and continuing to build on our success.

In the Learning priority, we are strengthening our use of High Impact Teaching Strategies and continuing to refine curriculum plans and consistent lesson structures across all classes. Explicit teaching will be a key focus to progress learning outcomes.

In the Wellbeing priority, we are further developing calm, positive learning environments through School‑Wide Positive Behaviour Support. Student support services remain a strong focus, with programs such as Doctors in Schools, regular access to an Art Therapist, and the upcoming introduction of a Mental Health Practitioner. Improving attendance procedures will be a key success criteria for 2026.

More specifically the actions will be :

  • Learning - Review curriculum documentation with a focus on strengthening Explicit Teaching Incorporate Explicit Teaching practice guides into professional learning schedule Participate in Explicit Teaching Webinars with Ryan Dunn Coaching/flipped coaching.
  • Wellbeing - Participation in the Attendance Fidelity Assessment (AFA) Tool project. Undertake a systematic review of attendance practices.  Identify attendance practices and processes that are at fidelity, as well as areas for improvement.

We look forward to continuing this important work throughout the year and ensuring every student is supported to thrive

KTHS SCHOOL COUNCIL:

We are currently inviting parent nominations for School Council and warmly encourage you to consider becoming involved.Joining School Council is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the direction and future of our school. It is especially exciting at this time, as we continue to grow and develop with the addition of new buildings and ongoing improvements. Your voice, ideas and perspective as a parent are incredibly valuable as we navigate these changes together.

Below you will find further information about the role of School Council and what is involved. We hope you will consider putting your name forward and being part of this important work.

WHAT IS A SCHOOL COUNCIL AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

All government schools in Victoria have a school council. They are legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the key directions of a school within statewide guidelines. In doing this, a school council is able to directly influence the quality of education that the school provides for its students.

WHY IS PARENT MEMBERSHIP SO IMPORTANT?

Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school.

DO I NEED SPECIAL EXPERIENCE TO BE ON SCHOOL COUNCIL?

Each member brings their own valuable life skills and knowledge to the role. What you do need is an interest in your child's school and the desire to work in partnership with others to help shape the school's future.

HOW LONG IS A TERM Of OFFICE?

Two years with half of the members retiring each year which creates vacancies for the annual school council elections. Meetings are held the third Monday of every month.

WHERE TO IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO NOMINATE?

Self-nomination forms are available below or on the information rack at the front office.

I would like to encourage our parent community to think about nominating for School Council. Together, we can continue to work to make Kerang Technical School a school to be proud of.

NO SCHOOL ACCIDENT or PERSONAL PROPERTY INSURANCE:

At times, the School is required to call an ambulance if a student is injured or sick.  The School will always err on the side of caution and call an ambulance.  The School will try to contact the respective parents but sometimes the phone is not answered.  Therefore, I would like to remind all parents and guardians that:

  • Parents/Guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs; and
  • Parents/Guardians can purchase insurance policies from Commercial Insurers.

Further to this, the Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.
