One of the most important responsibilities of any school is understanding how effectively it is supporting student learning and wellbeing. At Croydon Hills Primary School, we use a range of measures to evaluate our success, celebrate our strengths and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
One of these measures is NAPLAN, Australia's national assessment of literacy and numeracy. We have recently completed an analysis of our preliminary 2026 NAPLAN results and are pleased to see further improvement on what were already strong student achievement outcomes. Alongside NAPLAN data, we also draw on student wellbeing surveys, staff opinion surveys, classroom assessment data and parent feedback to ensure we have a comprehensive understanding of our school's performance.
These measures help guide our improvement initiatives and provide valuable insight into the impact of our teaching and learning programs.
At Croydon Hills Primary School, our teaching and learning programs are built on a simple belief: every student can succeed when they are provided with strong instruction, high expectations and the right support.
Our whole-school Instructional Model ensures consistency across classrooms, maximising learning time and providing students with clear routines and expectations. This allows students to focus on what matters most – learning.
Our curriculum is delivered through knowledge-rich units of learning that combine explicit teaching of literacy skills with inquiry and exploration. Students develop strong subject knowledge while learning to apply their understanding to real-world situations and meaningful questions.
In Literacy, we follow the Science of Language and Reading, providing a structured and evidence-based approach to reading, writing and spelling. Students develop strong foundations in phonics, fluency and comprehension, while also learning to communicate effectively through writing.
In Mathematics, students build deep understanding through explicit instruction, hands-on learning, visual representations and rich problem-solving opportunities. Regular retrieval practice and fluency activities help strengthen knowledge and confidence.
Across all learning areas, our goal is to develop capable, curious and confident learners who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed for future success.
I look forward to sharing our detailed 2026 NAPLAN results with the school community in Term 3 and celebrating the outstanding achievements of our students and staff.
