Grade 3 Healesville Sanctuary Excursion

On Tuesday 26th May, Grade 3 ventured to Healesville Sanctuary for an incursion filled with lots of fun and learning.  This experience gave students the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in their Term 2 Inquiry topic, 'How can we protect our native animals, land and resources?'

 

As part of our day, we explored the many trails and Australian animals across the sanctuary, whilst also experiencing the 'Spirit of the Sky' show, where we were able to get up close to many of our local feathered friends.  A highlight of the day was being able to observe a dingo, relaxing in its den. This was extremely special, as we have spent a lot of time learning about them in our Literacy sessions.

 

A big thank you to the parents who supported us on the day.  We hope the day was just as memorable for you, as it was for us.

Grade 2 Schwerkolt Cottage & Museum Complex Excursion

The Grade 2 students had a wonderful learning experience at Schwerkolt Cottage & Museum Complex last week. History came to life through hands-on activities and fascinating stories from the past. Exploring the historic cottage, blacksmith shop, and museum displays helped students connect with local heritage in a fun and interactive way. Overall, all students had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Grade 4 Learning

In Grade 4 students have been learning about ‘How colonisation affected Australia from 1750–1800’ in both Inquiry and Literacy. 

Students took part in an excursion that was a rich learning experience designed to deepen their understanding of Australia's colonial past and its lasting impacts. The students visited Polly Woodside, where students stepped aboard a real tall ship and explored what it was like for sailors during the 18th century. They learnt about life on board, including food rations, navigation, ship hierarchy, and even the use of toilets at sea—gaining firsthand insight into the challenges of maritime travel during this period. Students participated in a guided walk along the Birrarung / Yarra River, visiting significant historical and cultural landmarks throughout Melbourne. 

This includes stops at Federation Square, Birrarung Marr Park, and a walk downstream past key sites such as Federation Wharf, Flinders Street Station, Southbank, Indigenous cultural places, the Queens Bridge (site of early settlement), and the Sandridge Multicultural Bridge. This excursion provided a meaningful opportunity for students to connect historical knowledge with real-world locations, understand the impact of colonisation on different groups—particularly Indigenous Australians—and explore how Melbourne has changed over time.
