Hello NPS families. 

Welcome to our final newsletter for Term 3. 

A reminder that our final assembly for the term will be held next week, starting at 2:00 pm and concluding at 2:30 pm. As always, all families are warmly welcomed to attend before students are dismissed at 2:30 pm and head off into their Term 3 break! 

Just how GREAT was this year's School CONCERT! Monday night certainly brought the energy, with all of our students doing such an incredible job up on stage.  Our annual Concert is always one of the biggest events on our school calendar, and this year was no exception. Our students (and staff, of course) were absolutely amazing, delivering performances full of energy, talent, and passion. As mentioned on Monday, it is always an event that adds a little more stress and anxiety into our lives however it is always worth it. A very special thank you to Ms. Reyntjes (Bedson) for her outstanding coordination in bringing this incredible event together - it would not have been possible without her hard work and dedication, as well as that of Ali and Renee in the office and of course, our tremendous choreographers (staff!).

We have had, in the past two weeks, some sporting success with several students representing our school at the Divisional Athletics carnival. I am so proud of your efforts, sportsmanship, and school spirit, and from all reports, you tried your absolute best and did yourselves and Newtown PS proud! 

Following on from the above - a MASSIVE congratulations to our girls basketball team, who went undefeatedat the Divisional Championships this week. This incredible achievement means the team now progresses to the Regional Finals in Altona next term. A big thank you to Brad Schofield for his coaching expertise and for supporting, guiding and coaching this amazing team! 

How thrilled were we all to have welcomed the AFL to our school for a special media visit last Monday featuring the 2026 Premiership Cup! What better way for the AFL to kick off the Premiership Cup's tour than by starting right here at our school!!! It was also great to have Tom Hawkins drop by and spend some time at our school and engage with our students. Following the media scrum that attended, we've since been in the Geelong Advertiser, on countless social feeds, and on Channel 7! 

It was an exciting and memorable experience for all of our students. And some staff! 

I would like to thank all of those families that have completed our 2026 Parent Opinion Survey. I will send out another reminder next week however, it would be greatly appreciated if those who have not completed this please do so. In 2025 we had 55 families complete this, and we are currently sitting at 24. Your feedback and input help us to continue to improve and grow as a school and school community and to create the best environments, internally and externally, we can for our students. 

Finally, thank you to all of our families for your ongoing support of our wonderful school community. It truly makes a difference, and we couldn't do what we do without you and your willingness to engage and help out when and where needed.

Our Staff - Get to know our people...

Hi Newtown Primary School community,

I am Patrick (Mr O’Meara) and I have been a teacher at Newtown Primary School for the past 10 years. I currently teach Grade 3/4 and have taught every year level from Prep-6.

I love teaching, supporting students to do their best. I have a particular passion for English – in a previous life I was a sports journalist – and safe, appropriate and purposeful use of digital technology across all curriculum areas.

I live on the Bellarine Peninsula with my partner Mia, and my two children Lillian and Jobe. We are very excited that we will be adding another child to our family later this year.

I am an avid Essendon supporter, who continues to reflect on past successes and heroes, while constantly being reminded of our current challenges by both students and staff. I also enjoy following Liverpool in the EPL and Manly Sea Eagles in the NRL.

I enjoy adventures with my family, bike riding, and taking photos of sunsets and lighthouses (sometimes together).
