Around the Classrooms

Grade 3/4R

Students are wrapping up a successful term of writing persuasive pieces using our new ‘Persuasive Writing Self-Talk’ structure. There has been a strong focus on using a variety of persuasive devices, including the Rule of Three, rhetorical questions, alliteration and repetition, to name a few. We congratulate our students for embracing the new structure so enthusiastically.

In Geography this term, students have been researching Australia and its features before exploring its connections with neighbouring countries. They are looking forward to presenting projects that compare and contrast Australia with a neighbouring country of their choice. Their presentations will highlight connections through trade, foreign aid, sport and other services. We concluded the unit with a lively debate about whether Australia needs its neighbours, with half the class arguing in favour and the other half arguing against.

In Maths, we have begun our unit on mass and are learning about formal units of measurement. Students are using scaled instruments to measure the mass of various classroom items and balance scales to compare different objects. They are also learning to ‘heft’ objects—holding them in their hands to estimate and compare their mass.

Grade 3/4N

Over the weekend, Qina  (3/4N) and Philesia (5/6C) successfully achieved their red belts in Taekwondo! The taekwondo grading process is a time to show how hard you have been working and it involves performing a pattern of techniques, followed by self defence, a bout of sparring, and lastly board breaking. Qina was also awarded a trophy for 'Best Improvement', adding to her incredible achievement of 3 trophies across 3 years! We are so proud of Qina and Philesia's hard work and dedication - congratulations to them both and their next challenge will be obtaining a black belt!
