A huge thank you to everyone for a smooth start to 2026. We are thrilled to see our students return with such positive energy and are excited to focus on two key priorities this year: launching our new Number Fluency program and developing a collective understanding of best practices for teaching Language Comprehension. We look forward to an exciting year ahead.
Literacy: Deepening Understanding and Confidence
This year, our staff will be completing Professional Learning to support our collective understanding of how we explicitly teach Language Comprehension from Prep to Year 6 to build rich vocabulary and critical thinking. In all year levels, staff will use high-quality mentor texts to develop background and vocabulary knowledge, verbal reasoning, literacy knowledge and an understanding of language structure to comprehend what they read. We are also pleased to share that our Prep students have begun using decodable readers to build their letter-sound knowledge with confidence.
Numeracy: Launching the Number Fluency Program
Starting next term, we will launch a whole-school Number Fluency Program consisting of daily 15-minute sessions. Based on the research of Dr. Ange Rogers, this initiative focuses on essential skills like subitising, place value and multiplicative thinking. By building "automaticity" in these areas, we reduce the cognitive load on students, allowing them to tackle complex mathematical problems with greater ease. More information on the research behind this program can be found at numberfluencyprogram.com.
Kitchen Garden Program
We are excited to announce that our Kitchen Garden Program has started for our students in Years 3 to 6. This program provides hands-on learning experiences that connect students with fresh food and sustainable practices. A link to our Kingswood Enrichment Programs will be shared via Compass soon. This will include updated recipes from Term 1 2026 to help you bring the program's flavours into your own home.
NAPLAN 2026 – Supporting our Year 3 and 5 Students
The NAPLAN testing window is approaching and we are committed to ensuring a calm experience. Assessments are scheduled for 9:15 am daily to ensure students do not miss their Specialist days. Year 3 and 5 Writing begins on Wednesday, 11th March, followed by Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy throughout the following week. Families can support their children by focusing on the "big three": a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast and a punctual arrival. Please reassure your child that this is simply one way we track their learning progress.
Positive Classroom Management – Enhancing Learning
This semester, we are working with coach Jimmy Marnell to implement the Department of Education’s Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS) framework. This evidence-informed approach ensures our classrooms remain safe, predictable and purposeful through explicitly taught expectations and engaging lesson design. When environments are managed effectively, our students are better positioned to participate and experience success.
We look forward to working alongside all of our families to make 2026 a standout year for every student.
