On Friday, March 6, students from our Year 9/10 Coastal Rescue Class went to visit the Woollamai Coastal Dunes at Phillip Island. Our goal was to look at how the region is currently being managed and for students to determine a plan of action for how it could be better managed in the future. A beautiful day out, as well as some fun Boogie Boarding down the Coastal Dunes!

Last Thursday, the Year 12 Biology class travelled to the Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) in Parkville to engage with scientists from a collection of research institutes around Melbourne’s famed biomedical precinct and to carry out some cutting-edge genetic manipulation work under the guidance of their scientist mentors.

While the Year 12 class have been learning about how scientists around the world can edit genes and synthetically create important human proteins, such as insulin, this workshop allowed them to see how this is done in a laboratory and to actually carry out this gene manipulation work themselves.  It was an eye-opening experience for the class that brought to life the theory they had been taught and opened their minds to career possibilities they may not have considered previously.

Secondary House Athletics Carnival

The Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday, 20th March 2026. This is a compulsory event for all students in Years 7-12.

Any students not attending the carnival are required to provide a medical note to explain their absence. Letters of absence should be sent to the students homegroup teacher and entered on Seqta absences.

It is a colourful and fun day with great community spirit, and our expectation is that all students will support this whole secondary school carnival, their houses and peers by contributing in some way on the day.

Traditional athletics events are contested as well as other events (e.g. novelty relays, which are included for those not competing in track and field). Students who are not participating can support the program by officiating for house points and assisting with house organisation and team morale. House meetings were run the last couple of weeks to facilitate event sign-ups and to choose the house theme & chant/war cry for the day.

On the carnival day, we ask that all students be at school as per any other normal school day in time for morning home group so rolls can be marked in homegroup as quickly as possible. ALL students will be transported to the venue by bus from PVCC, departing at 8.45am after homegroup, and will return to PVCC at the end of the day in time for school buses.
