Primary Interhouse Athletics Carnival
Clayfield Sports Department are looking forward to hosting the Primary Interhouse Athletics Carnival next Tuesday 11 June. This will be a fantastic day involving all Primary children in Years 2 to 6. Students should arrive to school between 8.00 - 8.15am and go straight to their classroom. All students will be required to wear their sports uniform to and from school. Colourful house accessories may be worn for this event. These accessories can be added once they arrive at the venue but must be removed before students leave at the end of the day.
Spectators are more than welcome to attend and support. We ask that you please bring your own seating and sun protection.

Queensland AFLW U18 Team Announced: Rising Star Mia Geere Joins the Squad
In an exciting announcement for AFL Women's (AFLW) fans, Queensland has revealed its 2024 AFLW Under 18s Championships squad. Among the 30 talented young athletes named, 16 hail from the Gold Coast Suns Academy, while 14 represent the Brisbane Lions Academy. One standout inclusion is Year 11 student Mia Geere, a rising star from the Lions Academy.
Mia, a promising young player from Wilston Grange, is part of a trio of Under 16s All-Australians selected for the squad. Her inclusion is notable as she, along with her fellow Under 16s teammates, will have the opportunity to compete against opponents up to two years their senior, showcasing her exceptional skills and potential on a National stage.
The Maroons will embark on a challenging campaign, kicking off with two home games at Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield. They will face Vic Country on 7 July and the Allies on 13 July, before traveling to Perth for their final match against Western Australia at on 3 August.
Mia, who won't be eligible for the AFLW Draft until 2026, stands out as tall a midfielder/forward capable of playing on the wing. She excels in movement, line-breaking ability, and boasts a powerful kick. With significant development still ahead, Mia is a name to watch in the coming years and will be a key player in the upcoming contest.
Mia's inclusion in the squad is a testament to her talent and hard work. As she and her teammates prepare for the national carnival, Queensland's AFLW future looks promising, with a blend of seasoned players and exciting new prospects ready to take on the best in the country.
Riley Taylor Shines in Queensland School Sport AFL Team Selection
In a remarkable display of talent and leadership, Year 7 student Riley Taylor has been selected for the Queensland School Sport 10-12 years AFL team, marking a significant milestone in her budding athletic career. Riley, who captained the Met North team, led her squad to impressive performances in the recent state championships.
Metropolitan North emerged undefeated in their pool, demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork under Riley's captaincy. Despite a hard-fought loss in the semifinal, the team bounced back to secure a bronze medal by winning the playoff for third place. Despite her youth Riley's leadership on and off the field was instrumental in guiding her team through the highs and lows of the competition.
Riley's outstanding individual performance throughout the championship earned her the prestigious Taylor Harris Medal, awarded to the player of the championship. This accolade highlights her significant contribution and consistent excellence during the tournament. Her ability to inspire and lead by example did not go unnoticed, and it culminated in her selection for the Queensland team.
Reflecting on her achievements, Riley expressed her excitement and pride. "I'm very exhausted, bruised, and sore but so happy and proud," she shared, encapsulating the physical toll of the competition, as well as the immense satisfaction derived from her accomplishments.
As Riley prepares to represent Queensland, her recent experiences and accolades will undoubtedly serve as a strong foundation. Her selection is not only a testament to her skill and dedication but also an inspiration to her peers.
The Queensland School Sport 10-12 years AFL team can look forward to the addition of a talented and determined player in Riley, whose journey in the sport is poised to reach greater heights.
Hana Costello and Meghan Guthrie-Quinn Shine: Securing Spots at the 2024 Australian Swimming Trials
As the anticipation for the 2024 Australian Swimming Olympic Trials reaches its peak, two Clayfield College students have emerged, poised to make a splash at the trials. Hana Costello and Meghan Guthrie-Quinn have earned their places among the elite swimmers, clocking qualifying times that have secured their spots at the prestigious event.
The Australian Trials hold a special place in the hearts of swimming enthusiasts, serving as the pinnacle of domestic competition and the ultimate gateway to Olympic glory. With the 2024 Trials being the sole selection meet for the Dolphins Swimming Team to represent Australia in Paris, the stakes couldn't be higher. For Hana and Meghan, this represents an opportunity for experience and to swim against the Nations' best.
To Hana and Meghan, we extend our congratulations on your remarkable achievement in qualifying for the 2024 Australian Swimming Olympic Trials. We couldn't be prouder of your accomplishments. Swim with all your heart and know that we are cheering you on every stroke of the way.

We are looking to the last of our Interhouse Sporting Competitions for the year which gives our students another opportunity to display house spirit and gain points for the 2024 Inaugural Interhouse Champions Trophy.
All students are expected to attend their respective event and take part in the competition. If your child will be absent for any reason, the usual expectations around communicating student absences apply.

The 2024 Australian Swimming Trials are on at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre from 10 to 15 June! This is your chance to witness Olympic level performances in the pool many of you have swum in!
