News from Matt Di Salvo

Head of Sport

It has been a busy start to Saints Sport in 2025, with training and competition ramping up for what promises to be an exciting year. Our CISSA squads have played friendly matches against St Mary’s and Trinity Bay as part of their season preparations. The first round of the CISSA competition kicks off in Week 6, with our teams set to face St Andrew’s in away games.

Meanwhile, our AFL, Bill Turner, SFP, hockey, and Rugby League teams have completed trials and begun training ahead of their upcoming seasons. Good luck to all teams in the week ahead!

Our Year 7 and Year 8/9 Rugby League teams started their season this week against Trinity Bay SHS. Both teams faced tough opening losses but displayed great character and resilience, setting a strong foundation for improvement in the coming rounds.

Cowboys visit

Members of the Saints Year 9 Rugby League squad were visited by North Queensland Cowboys NRL and NRLW players Thomas Duffy, Tahlulah Tillett, and Krystal Blackwell. They were joined by Northern Pride coach Russell Aitken and current squad members and St Augustine’s staff, Sam Cramp and Jack Rix. The group participated in a Q&A session, offering valuable insights into what it takes to become a professional athlete. A big thank you to Jake Aitchison from Aitch Visuals for capturing photographs of the session.

2025 TCC Sport

Congratulations to all St Augustine’s students that have been successful so far in their TCC district sport trials. Please ensure that sac.absences@cns.catholic.edu.au is notified of any student absences for the TCC and Peninsula trials. The full procedure is outlined, below.

St Augustine’s College is part of the Trinity Coast Central (TCC) district, which serves as the pathway for students to represent the Peninsula region in the Queensland School Sport Championships.

In 2025, the TCC sign-up process will be conducted electronically. Students must register their interest for trials by completing a Microsoft Form from their school accounts. This ensures that a Parent Slip is generated and sent home with the necessary paperwork before the trials.

Completed forms must be re-uploaded to the Parent Slip with permission attached for approval by Mr Seivers. If students encounter difficulties uploading their forms, they can alternatively email them to Mr Di Salvo atsac.sport@cns.catholic.edu.au. For trial dates and details, please refer to the 2025 TCC Calendar.xlsx

The following TCC trials have already had parent slips issued. If you have not received a copy and your son would like to trial, please send an email to sac.sport@cns.catholic.edu.au:

Date Trial
5 March TCC Trial - Basketball 13-16 years
5 March TCC Trial – Hockey 10 – 12 years
5 March TCC Trial - AFL 13-15 years
6 March TCC Trial - AFL 10-12 years
7 March TCC Trial – Rugby Union 17-18 years

The St Augustine’s TCC application process is outlined below.

  1. Students complete the Microsoft Form from their accounts to register their interests in their chosen TCC sports. If students wish to trial for more than two sports in a calendar year, they must apply by emailing Mr Di Salvo who will seek an exemption from Mr Seivers.
  2. Before the trials, a parent slip will be sent home with documents attached for completion to grant permission for your son to attend the trials.
  3. Parent/guardians are to complete the Peninsula student permission details and consent formand upload it to the Parent Slip. This form must be submitted before completing the parent slip. Alternatively, this form can be sent to sac.sport@cns.catholic.edu.au
  4. After College Principal Mr Seivers has signed the document, students will collect it from the student office and take it to their trials.
  5. Students must have this booklet completed to be allowed to trial for a TCC team.

Sport absences

Representing St Augustine's at TCC/Peninsula/Queensland

Parents and carers must notify the College by emailing sac.absences@cns.catholic.edu.au. Students attending TCC/Peninsula/Queensland school sport within trial dates do not need to complete a Request for Student Absence form. However, if additional days are requested beyond the allocated trial dates, the form is required.  Students are responsible for informing their teachers of any exams or assessments due during their absence before they leave for carnival.

Sports unrelated to St Augustine's or TCC/Peninsula/Queensland

A Request for Student Absence form must be submitted for any sport unrelated to St Augustine’s or TCC/ Peninsula/Queensland school sport. This form can be completed online and emailed to sac.absences@cns.catholic.edu.au.
