Being Well at Magill
Welcome back!
Our Wellbeing Team has been busy helping everyone settle back into school routines. It has been wonderful to see students reconnecting with friends and familiarising themselves with their new class and year level.
Our Year 6 Leaders have also hit the ground running. As representatives of student voice, they have already spoken at two assemblies to introduce an exciting new initiative: Magill Merits, which has now replaced our old Yard Stars.
Magill Merits can be awarded at any time during the school day. They recognise positive behaviours and help us all use the language of URSTRONG to build strong, healthy friendships. Through this approach, students are learning positive strategies to make new friends, solve friendship problems safely, and manage tricky social situations with confidence.
At our first two assemblies, the Year 6 Leaders did a fantastic job explaining the purpose and benefits of Magill Merits. Using their impressive performing arts skills, they acted out scenarios to show how students can earn a Merit.
Junior Primary students enjoyed watching leaders demonstrate how to be a “Super Introducer” when making new friends
Primary students explored ways to put out “Friendship Fires” and respond to “Mean-on-Purpose” behaviour using positive strategies.
We received very positive feedback from students and staff, and student leaders look forward to continuing these important conversations throughout the year. Assemblies will remain a key opportunity to reinforce URSTRONG language and show students how to apply these skills in everyday situations.
