Interschool Sport - Term 2
As we reach the midway point of the term, our school’s sports teams have already shown remarkable performances and dedication. Here’s a highlight of our achievements so far and a look forward to the exciting events yet to come.
Baseball
Our EMR Intermediate Baseball and EMR Senior Baseball teams have both demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork, with the Intermediate team progressing through to the State competition on May 22nd. With the support of Mr Zaccaria and Mr Ellis, we are proud of their accomplishments and efforts across the year.
Netball
Our Intermediate Netball teams have been a force to be reckoned with, showcasing their agility and teamwork on the court. Both the girls and boys teams will progress to the EMR competition later in the year. Our Junior Netball teams have also made significant strides this term. All teams have displayed competitive spirit, building a strong foundation for future years. Thank you to Ms Roche, Ms Perrin, Ms Hosier, Ms Leavold, Ms Van and our many student coaches for allowing this to happen.
AFL
In the AFL, our teams have shown remarkable resilience and sportsmanship. Mr Couzens, Mr Nicholson and Mr Conte, with the support of a range of student coaches, have worked tirelessly to support the success in several of these competitions. (See further reports below).
Soccer
In Intermediate Soccer, the teams showed impressive cohesion and tactical prowess, resulting in some exciting wins across the board. Their ability to work together and adapt to challenges has been key to their success. Thank you Mr Cairns and Ms Bloomfield for your work, and good luck to the boys team in their future competition.
Badminton
The Senior and Intermediate Badminton players have also made us proud. The immense amount of effort that went into the selection and training for these students does not go unnoticed and we thank Mr Vuong for his dedication in building the program and Mr Ferres for his constant efforts supporting the Interschool sports program.
As we look forward to the rest of the term, we wish the best of luck to the following teams who are yet to compete.

Year 7 Boys AFL Whitehorse District
On Tuesday 7 May, our year 7 boys competed at Koonung Reserve against other schools in the Whitehorse District AFL Championship in fine, sunny and perfect football conditions. All 16 players made valuable contributions throughout the day, contributing to an overall win on the day. Thank you to our Year 10 Sport Coaching students Zac and Nadav who helped coach on the day. We look forward to the next challenge in the EMR competition later in the year.
Year 8 Boys AFL Whitehorse District
On Tuesday 28 May, 19 very enthusiastic Year 8 boys took to the field at Elgar Park in the Whitehorse District AFL round robin. BHS lived up to the pre-match expectations by convincingly defeating all opposition schools. Strong first half performances in all games allowed some coaching experimentation with all players given the opportunity to play at both ends of the ground. Consequently, goal kicking was spread amongst nearly all players BHS’s next and more competitive challenge awaits at the EMR later in the year.
Year 9/10 Intermediate Boys AFL Whitehorse District
On Wednesday 15 May, our Intermediate boys took to the field at Elgar Park in the Whitehorse District AFL Championship. BHS managed to field an A and a B team which is testament to the popularity of AFL amongst the 40 students. All BHS players should be congratulated on their efforts, behaviour and the way they represented the school.
The A Team managed to win all 4 games progressing through to the next round impressively. Across the day everyone contributed to big wins displaying a great example of team football and spirited game play.
The B Team performed admirably given that they competed against A teams from other schools. Fantastic wins against the other schools were thoroughly enjoyed and celebrated. Our B Team players were out to impress as good performances could be rewarded with promotion to the A team if as expected they go through to EMR.
Senior Boys AFL Whitehorse District
On Thursday 2 May, our Senior Boys AFL Team played at Elgar Park in the Whitehorse District AFL Championship. We were undefeated in the first four rounds of competition, setting up a dream final match between the other undefeated school – BHSSC. The first half was an arm wrestle between two very evenly matched teams. Unfortunately, BHSSC had a superior second half defeating our team by 8 points.
Despite the loss all 22 BHS players should be proud of their efforts and bravery after such adversity. They represented BHS with pride, performed at a high level and displayed great mateship and sportsmanship.
Special thanks to Harvey who assisted with goal umpiring and other tasks on the day.
