No shortage of opportunities in Music lately!

A snapshot from this term's BHS Music Notes

Blackburn Primary School visit - Friday April 19

The Thursday Big Band travelled to Blackburn Primary School to perform at their weekly assembly.

The band performed their program for GiJ, as well as hearing some of the BPs students perform.  We look forward to  having more connections with BPS in the future.

Jazz@Club - Monday April 22

Jazz@Club BHS was a highlight for our students in the week leading up to the Generations in Jazz Camp at Mount Gambier in early May.  Adorned with complete stage and tables for the audience, the school gym resembled more of an intimate jazz club than a basketball court.

Each of the seven ensembles participating in the Generations in Jazz tour from May 3 to 5, presented their full programs to a packed audience.

A great night was had by all.

ANZAC service - Tuesday April 23

Our ANZAC service at school, which is always a wonderful, but solemn occasion.

Harvey G. performed the Last Post and Reville, which was an honour and a high pressure performance.   Lavi T. performed the New Zealand National Anthem accompanied by the Symphonic Band.

Open Day - Tuesday April 23

Vocal Ensemble, Concert Strings, Thursday Big Band and assorted small groups ran open rehearsals and provided short performance for the parents and students visiting our school for Open Day.

Lunchtime performances

These continue to be popular - showcasing ensembles and sharing the music program with the school community.

Generations in Jazz - May 1 to 3

Blackburn High School had a palpable presence at GiJ this year!  Across different venues and performance times, all our ensembles attracted large audiences.  Students were elated and energised by their performances.

Wow, Just Wow! - probably the best school excursion I have ever had!
