Year 10 - Positive Futures Program

An alternative day of programming for all Year 10 students.

On Friday 21 June, all year 10 students participated in a range of workshops designed to assist them in making informed and positive decisions now and for the future.  Students gained knowledge and skills in effective communication, party safe strategies and the laws and legislation that govern their lives and interactions as young people making their way into adulthood.  There was also a session of Careers and Pathways including subject selection for VCE (or VM) next year.

The programs delivered were from the following providers:

• Reg Frogs:     https://redfrogs.com.au/

• Toolbox Education: Conflict Resolution Workshop

 • Victoria Police: Making Smart Choices - Your Rights and Responsibilities, Young People, Consent and the Law. www.Consent.gov.au

• Future Focused Workshop – Careers, Pathways and Smart Subject Selection for 2025

• And by popular demand…. A fun activity of choice.

o Nanna’s Art and Craft Session with Bickies and Hot Chocolate

      o Mystery Box Cooking Class

o Team Games Survivor – Do or Die!

      o Pop Culture Trivia Challenge

The program was carefully curated by our Careers, House and Well-being Teams.  We want all of our students to have not only use the information they need to make informed smart choices, but the skills and courage to do so when it's not so easy.

Student Comments:

  • The Y10 cohort stated that the workshops on Consent, Assertive Communication, Career Pathways, and Partying Safely were informative as the workshops enabled students to consolidate their knowledge or learn something new.
  • "It was a nice way to end the day off, especially because of our small group. I was able to relax and mull over everything we learnt throughout the day." - Yazmin Yang reflecting on the choice activity (Team Games, Trivia, Cooking or Arts/Crafts) to end the day.
  • "I had a good time (making the food in the Mystery Cooking Box Challenge)" - Emily P.
