Principal's Report

Student Excellence

Congratulations to one of our international students from the class of 2023, Xiaoqian Liu who achieved one of the highest awards for Visual Arts at the 2024 Victorian Global Learning Awards held at the RACV Club on 17 May 2024.

Ms Zhou, the international student coordinator and Ms Roach, Xiaoqian’s art teacher, attended the event that celebrated her artistic journey which is rooted in her childhood influences, drawing inspiration from nature, fairy tales and fiction.

Her work is quite distinctive where Xiaoqian meticulously incorporates detailed artwork using natural elements including insects and flowers.

Xiaoqian is currently studying a Bachelor of Architectural Design at RMIT.

Robotics Competition

We wish the students in the Blackburn High School Robotics Team well as they wait in anticipation for the start of the 2024 First Robotics Melbourne competition that will be hosted at Blackburn High School from Friday 5 July to Sunday 7 July.

Thank you to Mr Metheringham, Ms Love, Mr Lam and the parents for their support of the students.

Primary School Links

Throughout this term, the Blackburn High School students and staff have continued to forge stronger links with our feeder primary schools.

Five of our English teachers visited Mitcham PS last week and observed how they implement the Readers & Writers workshops.

One our Maths teachers visits Kerrimuir PS weekly and works with 30 of their high achieving maths students.

In addition, the Year 12 VM students and teachers have worked closely with the Blackburn PS and Old Orchard PS students around their literacy.

VR Innovation

We are very excited about incorporating sixteen ClassVR headsets next term into our school curriculum.

These VR headsets will provide exciting, engaging, and immersive learning experiences for our students across many subjects from a growing library of thousands of titles. Subjects covered include Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, English, History, Geography, Languages and Sports.

The Principal Team wishes all members of the Blackburn High School community a safe and enjoyable winter holiday break and we look forward to seeing you back on Monday 15 July for the start of Term 3.
