Grade 3/4 End of Term 2 Newsletter

We have had such a wonderful start to Term 2, filled with exciting events such as Multicultural Day and our special Mother’s Day celebrations. It’s been fantastic to see students engaging in learning while also enjoying the many fun activities throughout the term. The Grade 3/4s have been working very hard and showing great enthusiasm for their learning.

Wellbeing

This term, we continued to focus on understanding and managing our emotions, with a particular emphasis on recognising feelings of anger and overwhelm. Students learned a variety of strategies to help regulate these emotions and practiced applying them in different situations. We also explored the importance of resilience and how we can bounce back from challenges. A key focus was on meaningful apologies—what makes them genuine and why they matter in building positive relationships.

Writing

In Writing, our focus has been on procedural texts. We looked at the different types of procedures and why they are useful in everyday life. A highlight was taking our writing into the kitchen to make delicious damper! Students also wrote their own procedures based on things they are confident in, teaching others how to complete tasks—from cooking to the very creative “How to Turn My Teacher into a Zombie!” These pieces were filled with imagination and clear instructions.

Maths

In Maths, we continued to build on our knowledge of multiplication and division using bar models to break down larger numbers. This helped students develop a stronger understanding of part-part-whole relationships. We explored fractions such as halves, quarters, eighths, and beyond. Time was another focus—students practiced reading o’clock, half past, quarter to, and quarter past using hands-on clocks. As always, maths lessons were supported by engaging songs, games, and hands-on materials to make learning interactive and fun.

Discovery

This term in Discovery, we investigated the living conditions in Britain during the late 1700s and the reasons many people turned to petty crime. Students learned how crime and punishment have changed over time and explored the stories of real convicts, such as a 9-year-old chimney sweeper. We also studied the journey of the First Fleet, using maps and timelines to locate and record geographical and historical data.

We’re so proud of the effort and curiosity our students have shown. It has been an amazing first half of Term 2, and we look forward to seeing even more growth, learning, and fun in the weeks to come!
