Melbourne City Excursion
Dear CSC Families and School Community,
On behalf of the Middle School and our wonderful Assistant Principal, Mr. James McGavisk, I am proud to announce the success of the year 9 CBD experience during week 6.

The students were excited about the opportunity to visit the CBD for a week of exploring, learning and collaboration with peers and newly made friends in their year level. It was wonderful to see students have a good time in an alternative setting. We had all seven form groups go on a one-day tour around the city from Wednesday to Friday. Elements of the excursion included, a daily gathering at Fed Square, a morning city walk around the CBD, the Old Melbourne Gaol, graffiti art at Hoosier Lane, the ACMI atrium, before lunch and a final rendezvous at Melbourne Central on the way home.
Above, our students Daniel, Denis, Khoshaba and Riad display Respect, Belonging and Understanding with their exemplary behaviour towards public property and their interactions as peers.
It was fantastic to see students engaged in real life learning experiences, from a simple walk down city lanes, to the actual tours of venues themselves. Our groups explored the Old Melbourne Gaol and gained an understanding of prison life 140 years ago, they viewed Melbourne from atop the Eureka Tower, and they practiced geographical skills to pinpoint famous locations.
But who could forget the ACMI experience? Wandering the exhibits and entering a world of science and technology shows us how our environment is evolving constantly. So too is the student experience, as they grow and adapt during their time at school.
Top left: The world of Science and Technology sure is first class when you’re in ACMI, students Moab Sao of 9B and Te’A Jr of 9E sure agree with this. Bottom left: students explore over 140 years of mystery in the Old Melbourne Gaol
Students were fascinated by the conditions that prisoners were subject to in the Old Gaol
Above, left: students Kingston Levi and Sajad Ahmadi of 9D proudly pose after their tour and soon off to lunch for the day! Above, right: students Senay Sozmen, Lavinia Hanna and Dareen Al Wazani of 9H eagerly await the ventures of the day – smile – its Fri-yay on Friday!
Skyward view of Melbourne … who could not love the scene from 88 floors up at Eureka Tower?
Top: Lovely smiles from Ms. Tosun with students Minolya Jajju, Sienna Plenzich and Yasmine Abdullah of 9B indicate the excitement from 88 floors above 😊 Bottom, left: Mr. Wu guides students Amos and Ezrah through the finer points of cartography whilst viewing the heart of Melbourne.
After a lunchbreak at Melbourne Central Station or Fed Square, the team would gather for a final trip to the amazing graffiti artworks in Melbourne’s laneways, in particular those near Culture Kings.
We would like to thank the students for their conduct. Some outstanding ambassadors of our college were the student monitors who helped throughout the excursion; Khoshaba Alkobi, Riad Najmeddine, Frances Eili, Shane Williams, Sajad Ahmadi, Fong Yee Vang, Kingston Levi, Amos Ilaoa, Dan Hyland and Denis Kiselev.
With a final stop at Melbourne Central (and despite the odd delay!) our student groups returned safely each day.
Miss Merve Tosun deserves a special mention for arranging many of the tours. She contributed numerous hours to ensure our students got the most out of their experience in the city.
We also wish to acknowledge Ms. Shireen Buya, Miss Elif Doktoroglu, Mr. Fale Ieremia, Mr. Matthew Godwin, Mr. David Owen, Ms. Stacey McGrath, Ms. Zena Elbaba, Mr. Saad Al-Shabani and Mr. Hassan Al Bonajem for accompanying us and supporting the students. We could not have done it without your assistance.
Thanks also to Mr. James McGavisk, Ms. Mary Calthorpe, Ms. Hannah Atkinson and for the cooperation of year 9 student families who helped make the CBD excursion possible. 🙂 Fingers crossed, stay tuned for another group of students making the most of Melbourne in 2024!!! 🙂
