Principal's Report

Dear families and friends of MPW,

Thank you to the families who took the time to participate in the recent Year Level Parent Information Sessions and Parent-Teacher Interviews. We are finalising the year level information for addition on the school’s website for ongoing access for families, this will be communicated once finalised, the goal is to have this up by the end of the week. Building shared knowledge around our school processes and teaching practices is an important part of strengthening our learning community. The relationship between school staff and families is vital to ensure all students are learning and are feeling safe and happy at school. We encourage anyone that has not yet connected with their child’s teacher so far this year to please do so in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to students who represented the school at District Swimming, we had 28 students attend. Thank you to Bree and parents who were able to attend and support our students. We have 3 students who have progressed to Division Finals this week and we wish those students all the best for their respective events.

Also, thank you to those parents and staff who have indicated their interest in being part of School Council. Thank you again to those councillors who have come to the end of their terms, and are not re-nominating, for their contributions and participation to council in recent years.

Basket Tea

It was great to see many of our families at the Basket Tea, it was a great turnout. It was nice speaking with several parents about their positive start to the school year. Thank you to our 2024 Parent Reps for accommodating the fashionable yellow vests yet again to help identify themselves to the rest of the parents in their child’s class. The Parent Reps play an important part in communication for parents of your child’s classroom, so we hope you had the chance to meet them in person.

Our next community event is the Movie Night on March 22nd. The movie will be ‘Wonka’. This again will be setup on the Tiger Turf, with some food and beverage stalls available throughout the night. Thank you to the fundraising group who are currently organising the event. More information can be found in the Fundraising section of the newsletter.

NAPLAN

The NAPLAN Literacy and Numeracy tests for students in Years 3 and 5 are scheduled to commence next week, beginning Wednesday 13th March. All Year 3 and 5 students will participate in practice tests this week to assist in preparation for the testing and help students become familiar with the online environment that NAPLAN is delivered in. Year 3 students will continue to complete the Writing assessment on paper.

Parent Payments

The 2024 Parent Payment information has been shared with families via Compass. These can be paid online through the Compass. Alternatively, you can use the information and payment form and return to the school office with your payment details. Parent contributions continue to provide an important and critical source of funding which enables us to supply resources necessary to maximise successful delivery of our learning programs. For further information please refer to the Parent Payments Policy on our school website.

5/6 Camp

I was lucky to be able to attend the 5/6 Anglesea Camp last week. The camp had a surf experience and opportunity for students to camp in tents one of the nights. Students had a fantastic time away from home for a 4 day and 3 night experience. We had many students experience some ‘firsts’ on camp, whether it be learning to ride a bike, trying some new food or surfing for the first time. Students showed remarkable courage in having a go and being open to challenging themselves.

Whilst the weather was hot last week, we were able to ensure that the camp ran smoothly and students were able to have a great time away together.

Thankyou to the 5/6 teachers and our four parent helpers for making the camp a successful experience for our students.

Classroom Helpers

Last week, Elisha ran our annual Classroom Helpers induction session for parents wanting to volunteer in the classroom. If you are wanting to help in the classroom on a regular or non-regular basis, please ensure that you reach out to your child’s teacher to organise how you can help in the classroom. All parent helpers are required to read through our induction information regarding privacy and Child Safety and are required to have a Working With Childrens’ Check in order to volunteer in the school.

We look forward to welcoming those parents who are able to come in to support our students and teachers where possible in classrooms.

Finally, I will be taking some Long Service Leave from Monday 18th March until Friday 19th April. I have planned my leave at a time that will be least disruptive to the operation of the school. I am lucky to be traveling overseas with my family.

In my absence, Elisha will be in charge ably supported by our professional team leaders.  I hope everyone has a great end to the term and school holiday period and I look forward to returning on 22nd April.

Regards,

Jarrod Sutton
