Catholic Identity

Mercy Prayer
We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.
It is through their vision, determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.
We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.
Socktober
During the month of October, Catholic Missions has a theme to help raise money. This October we will not be raising any money here at school. In class, teachers will explore the Socktober concept with the students.
Socktober for Mission Month cultivates the passion of students to rise up, engage their local community, and take action against poverty through the world game of soccer. It provides young people in Australia with the opportunity to lead in mission, encouraging them to think not only of what they will do to help, but why they will do it.
Students are asked to donate old socks, clean rags, plastic bags and string to create a sockball. Each class might create one ball for the class or several balls for small groups to use.
Sacraments of First Eucharist and Confirmation
On Sunday 11 October, our school community joyfully celebrated the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Congratulations to Oscar Williams, Bayden Newman, Jiro Valledor and Ava Fisher, who received both sacraments. Isabel Weis, Theo Natalizio, Angelo Natalizio, Samuel Koum and Oliver DeMaria also received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Fr Ruel led a warm and meaningful Mass, ensuring each candidate felt welcomed and valued as they took this important step in their faith journey. It was a beautiful occasion for our school community as we celebrated these significant milestones in the lives of our students.
We congratulate all the candidates and pray that they continue to grow in faith, guided by the love of Christ and supported by their families and our school community.
We also wish our next group of candidates, Daniel Sibio, James Sibio, Kodinna Raymond and Boston Ferrari, every blessing as they prepare to receive their sacraments on Sunday 18 October. We keep them in our prayers as they take this special step in their faith journey and look forward to celebrating this important occasion with them and their families.
P/1/2 Creation Mass
Last Friday, our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students, together with our Sacramental Candidates, gathered to celebrate a Unit Mass with the theme of Creation.
It was wonderful to see all students participating reverently and respectfully throughout the Mass, joining in the prayers, readings and other parts of the celebration. As always, the students’ singing was beautiful and helped create a joyful and prayerful atmosphere.

(Ps 118:24).It is a very long time since I read Winnie the Pooh, but I do remember these lines: “What day is it?” asked Pooh. “It’s today,” squeaked Piglet. “My favourite day,” said Pooh.Today might just look like any other day, but it is not It is a gift. We did not earn this day, we didn’t merit it or have some inalienable right to it. This day is a reminder that each of us has the gift of life and all that it offers
