Congratulations to Year 7 student Xxavier Ballinger who represented the College with pride at the 2024 Legacy Junior Public Speaking competition held at Legacy House on Wednesday 12 June.
With competitors ranging from 12-14 years from Ballarat Grammar, Loreto College and Ballarat Clarendon College, Xxavier had some tough competition, and as one of the youngest competitors, should be very proud of his efforts across the two events. Xxavier’s prepared speech focused on the brave heroes left behind during wars, those that didn’t fight but still displayed courage in their respective roles.
“Are We There Yet?” was the topic that each competitor had only five minutes to prepare to discuss in the impromptu section. The range of topics covered were vast, though lots of students brought society into focus asking “Are we there yet?” regarding progress and sustainability. Although Xxavier didn’t make it through to the state finals, the future of public speaking at St Pat’s is in good hands with this up-and-comer!
Congratulations to all who auditioned for our Year 7-9 production of The Lion King Jr! Our first cast and crew meeting was last night, where we read through the script for the first time. The buzz in the room was palpable as more than 40 students came together to build the foundation of a strong cast and crew. Mr Snibson and Ms Allen were blown away by the talent and can’t wait to get stuck into rehearsals starting on Thursday 20 June.

Round 4 of DAV debating took place at Ballarat Grammar this week where two St Pat’s teams represented SPC well. Our seniors had some strong arguments but were unable to come away with a win despite their fantastic coaching by Mrs Trudi O’Callaghan and Mrs Rebekah Lester. The Year 10 team were victorious though with Archer Mohr being named best speaker! Congratulations to Mitchell Shea and Patrick Buttler who made up Archer’s team, ably led by Mr Dirk Stickland.
The final round of DAV debating will take place on Wednesday 26 June.
