Year 9 Extension Maths - Mathematicians Project

Early to mid-term 1, students in the 2024 Year 9 Maths Extension Elective (Semester 1) worked hard researching a historical mathematician.

Students put together relevant information in PowerPoint slides and orally presented their findings to their peers in a 5-minute talk (approx). (Like ... Who are these people? When did they live? What did they discover/invent? Linking Past and Present. Other facts, etc.)

Each presenter constructed a question (as their Mathematician) directed to the class. Peers were engaged in their attempts to solve the question.

Students also demonstrated awesome creativity by designing their Mathematician's 'business card'.

Maths Domain Leader, Ms Holmes and the Principal Class team, Mr Russell, Ms Nicholls and Mr Allen were present at some of these student presentations.

We were all very impressed by the high calibre, imagination and standards of our students. The talks were detailed, meticulously researched, informative, fun and educational.

We all learnt some interesting things about the people who have shaped our world in the marvellous subject of Mathematics!

I am writing to acknowledge the wonderful research undertaken by our Year 9 Extension Maths students. It was lovely to see the students link the achievements and contributions of great mathematicians to their core classroom learning. It was also lovely to see students ask and solve (mathematics) questions relating to the major contributions.

Thank you to Mrs Maniatis for inviting me into her class this morning, to watch student presentations.

2025 Year 11 Camp Expressions of Interest

The 2024 Year 11 camp was a great success for students and staff. Please see the photos in this edition of The Cheltonian. We would like to make bookings and preparations for the 2025 Year 11 camp. It would be appreciated if all Year 10 families could please complete the survey posted on the Compass newsfeed on 26th March.

Year 10 Immunisations

As part of the National Immunisation Program Year 10 students can receive free immunisations as part of the Secondary School Immunisation Program.

As part of this program vaccines are given at school by nurse immunisers from Kingston Council.

Students who miss the school session can also access the free vaccines from a GP, or their local council immunisation community service.

Kingston Council’s Immunisation Team will be attending Cheltenham Secondary on

This year for your convenience, we have introduced a new Parent or Guardian online consent system via the Dept of Health’s Central Immunisation records Victoria (CIRV) portal.

It is important that you let us know if you are consenting YES or NO to the vaccination being done at school. Please note: Click EDIT to consent or deny vaccination to be done at school.
Complete a Medicare number where applicable.
Vaccinations will not be given to a student without Parent or Guardian consent.
