Year 11 Camp was a great experience, throughout high school the class of 2025 haven’t had a great opportunity like other year levels to connect as well as we should of during our early years due to COVID, having been lucky enough for us all to share a camp in Year 11 has given us a chance to finally create more relationships within the cohort. Building these important connections with each other before our last year of school has been a blessing we are all so thankful for. I’m sure everyone walking into school after camp is so shocked by the amount of new friends to greet in the morning. With such a great outcome from Phillip Island, the whole year level have our fingers crossed for a Year 12 camp so we can add to the amount of funny memories we can already cherish for the rest of our lives here at Cheltenham. - Atika S.
Participating in the Year 11 School Camp was an enriching experience that left a lasting impression on me. From conquering outdoor challenges to bonding with classmates throughout the camp, every moment was filled with learning and growth. The opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and engage in activities like team rescue and surfing helped me develop valuable life skills such as leadership, communication, and resilience. Moreover, the camp provided a platform for building friendships and creating unforgettable memories that I will cherish for years to come. - Zoe V.
The Year 11 camp this year at Phillip Island was very enjoyable and recommended. Starting with the activities, they all provided lots of fun and enjoyment. Surfing especially, the waves were big and the water was nice. I recommend doing the surfing, even if you have never done it before. Cabins and toilets were clean and free time activities were enjoyable. - Lachie O'M.
I really enjoyed camp. All the activities were fun especially the surfing and the life saving one with the course as well as the raft making and the canoeing. Those were the activities I made most memories with however I also really enjoyed the free time we had. I felt it was the perfect amount of time to relax and I also liked how we could only go to the cabins at around 10.00pm so that we could socialise and have some fun before going to bed. I also liked the fact that we didn't have our phones on us, it let people communicate with others a lot better and there was less distraction.
Overall I think that the camp went really well and I wish I had a Year 12 camp haha. - Jess K.
The week of the 18 March was an exciting week for our VCE music students. The Year 12 class really shone on stage in the Auditorium, displaying their incredible talent. The concert, spanning various genres, celebrated their dedication and skill.
At the conclusion of the evening, a surprise performance took place featuring Louis Williams, Jovan Susak, and Keziah Hendry, along with our esteemed Cheltenham teachers; Mr Marty Rice and Mr Christian Meyer joined the students for an energetic rendition of Prisoner of Society.
As their music teacher, this concert marked a bittersweet moment for me, as it's their second-to-last performance at Cheltenham. A big thank you to all the audience members who attended and cheered for our talented young musicians. We are looking forward to their final concert in Term 3, on Monday 19th September, and we invite the Cheltenham community to join us.
Later in the week, we headed to the city for the Top Class performance, where VCAA showcased the highest scoring performances from the 2023 VCE Music exams. It was an incredible opportunity to witness the best of VCE-level musical talent and gain valuable insights into the examination standards.
To our VCE Music students - well done and keep up the great practice! I wish you all the best for your upcoming final performance exams at the end of the year.
We provide optional tutoring classes every Friday at 8.00am for music theory practice and ear training. It's impressive to see students from Year 10, 11, and 12 waking up early and showing dedication to their musical development.
Year 11 and 12 students studying Art Making and Exhibiting visited the NGV International and Ian Potter Centre to explore the current Triennial and Top Arts Exhibitions. The students were guided through key artworks featured in the Triennial exhibition and discussed the artists’ use of materials and techniques as well as the learning about curation and exhibition design.
