Year 3/4 News

Writing

Students have been working hard over the past few weeks on their persuasive writing. They’ve put together some great pieces using lots of persuasive language and devices. It’s been awesome to see their progress and read their convincing arguments!

Resilience Project

Building on our resilience project lesson, students decided to create an emotions chart to display in our classrooms. Each student chose one or two emotions to illustrate, and we have been using this chart to help them recognise and express their feelings. We talked about how emotions can change throughout the day and why it’s important to communicate them so others can support us. Seeing so many students already using the chart to recognise and share their emotions has been fantastic!

Science

On Monday, students completed their science assessment by working in pairs to explore how heat affects different substances. They chose butter, ice, or chocolate, made predictions, exposed their chosen item to heat, and reflected on how and why it changed from a solid to a liquid. They had great success and enjoyed applying their learning from our Changes of State unit.

Reading at Home

Both classes have a Caterpillar Reading Chart where students earn rewards throughout the term for their nights of reading at home. It’s been great to see them excited to read with these incentives! The chart resets each term, and diaries are checked weekly. Just a reminder that students are expected to read at home at least four nights a week and have their diary signed by an adult.

We've had a fantastic term getting to know our 3/4 students and establishing routines. We wish all families a safe and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to another action-packed term ahead!
