Reflection

Feast of Christ the King - 24th November

This forthcoming Sunday marks the final Sunday of the liturgical year. On this occasion, we commemorate the Solemnity of Christ the King.

The Feast of Christ the King was introduced during a time of political turmoil and rising secularism. In establishing this feast, Pope Pius XI aimed to remind the faithful of Christ’s sovereignty over all earthly rulers and worldly powers. Today, the celebration continues to inspire Christians to see Christ not only as a spiritual leader but as the true King whose teachings transcend human governments and ideologies.

Placed on the last Sunday of the liturgical year, right before Advent, the feast reminds us of the cyclical nature of faith—ending with the reign of Christ and beginning anew with the anticipation of His birth. It serves as a bridge between Ordinary Time and the Advent season, calling on Christians to prepare their hearts to welcome Christ as King and Saviour.

As the liturgical year concludes, this feast offers a moment of spiritual reflection, grounding believers in the knowledge that, despite the challenges and uncertainties of life, Christ’s love and mercy remain constant.

Prayer

God of justice and compassion,

show us your face when we look at

the people around us.

Open our eyes to the needs of others.

Fill us with your grace,

so that our works and our words

may be signs of your coming.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Classroom Prayers

Year One /Two has just finished a unit of work in Religion titled, ‘Creator God.’  One of their Learning Intentions was “ I can make up a prayer of thanks and praise.”  The students wrote some beautiful prayers.  Here are a few of them:

Dear God,

You made the highest heavens.  You made me and my family and friends.  You made LOVE and JOY.  You made trees and water, the animals and the land.  Thank you for your wonderful creation.   Archer Clark.

Dear God,

You made the earth and everything that is on it!  God our Father, thank you for being here for the generation of people.  To our Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we will all pray to you.  The waves go by quickly with the sea animals. AMEN.  Edwina Lisle.

Dear God, Thank you for creating all the trees, flowers and bushes and all the animals - like deer, tigers, turtles, zebras and lions.  Thank you for creating the sea and dry land, as well as the day and night, sun and moon, stars and clouds.  I love the earth and everything that is on it. Thank you for your wonderful creation. Amen.  Bella Norton.
