Highlights of the Week!
Basketball Workshops
Today, some of our best basketball talent visited Bulimba State School to help prepare their students for their upcoming gala day competition against local schools.
The training session was thoughtfully designed and delivered by our student coaches, who did a fantastic job sharing their skills, knowledge and passion for the game. The session was warmly received by the Bulimba students, who embraced the opportunity to learn and develop their basketball skills.

Traction CEO Bike Build
Last month, a group of former TRACTION students were able to get back on the tools again for the 8th Annual CEO Bike Build. Participants took the lead in guiding CEOs through the process of re-assembling bikes, which they had learnt during their time with the TRACTION program in the past.
The day allowed students to lead and communicate as a team, sharing their skills with others building upon confidence and leadership abilities.
Other participating schools were also in attendance, fostering further community between our young people.
Congratulations to Year 10 student Sonaya Tanna, who won first place in the Year 10 Polyptych category of QATSIF’s 9th Annual Creative Arts Competition. QATSIF—the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation—supports First Nations students’ education. The statewide competition attracted 259 entries connected to Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC themes.
“This painting tells the story of the people who came before me. My ancestors whose footsteps still walk beside me, even when I cannot see them. Every dot represents a memory, a heartbeat, and a connection that time can never take away.
The circles in this artwork symbolise gathering places, where stories, culture, and love are passed down through generations. The pathways between them represent the journey of family like the hard times, the strength and the resilience carried through bloodlines.
Some parts of this painting represent grief and loss, for the family members and ancestors who are no longer physically here. But within Aboriginal culture, our loved ones never truly leave us. They live in Country, in the wind, in the stars and in the stories we continue to tell.
Created during the 50th NAIDOC anniversary, this artwork celebrates survival, pride, and the unbreakable connection to culture. It is a reminder that even after loss, strength grows. We carry our ancestors with us, and because of them, we continue to stand strong, proud and Deadly.”
QATSIF Graduation
On the 25th August, we proudly celebrated the graduation of our First Nations Year 12 students at the QATSIF Graduation Ceremony at Griffith University.
It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the achievements of our 2 graduating students, who have demonstrated commitment, resilience and pride throughout their schooling journey at Balmoral High. Their graduation is a significant milestone and one that highlights the strength of their connection to culture, community and identity.
We are incredibly proud of both students and we wish them every success as they take their next steps beyond year 12. Congratulations!
