Jubilee 2025 - Pilgrims of Hope
In today's world, we're constantly measuring and benchmarking everything. We have metrics for student performance, teacher effectiveness, and even the number of books in the library. This focus on data is useful, and it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that anything not on a spreadsheet isn't important. We might even hear the phrase, "Hope is not a strategy," and while that's true in a purely tactical sense, it misses a much bigger point.
What are we without hope? Hope is the quiet engine that keeps us going. It's the silent force that gets us out of bed each morning, long before the data is collected or the results are in. It’s the small, personal belief that things can be better. For many of us, hope is as simple as hoping there aren't kangaroos on the road on the way to school, or hoping one of your children will get ready without a fuss. These small hopes, as silly as they may seem, are the building blocks of resilience.
Hope is not a replacement for hard work or careful planning. Instead, it's what makes the work and the planning possible. It’s the feeling that helps a student persevere through a difficult subject, a teacher find new ways to engage a struggling class, and a parent get through a hectic morning. It's the belief that our efforts, no matter how small, matter.
So, while we continue to track our progress and aim for our goals, let's not forget the vital role of hope. It’s the human and divine element that fuels our strategies and sustains us through the challenges. Hope is found in God and it’s the reason we keep trying, keep learning, and keep growing, even when the path ahead isn't entirely clear.
Prayer:
Dear God,
Help us to have a little hope today.
Hope that the sun will shine,
hope that our worries will not be too heavy,
and hope that we will be kind to one another.
Thank you for the small mercies, the quiet moments, and the simple joys.
Amen.
