From the Year 3 Classroom
We have wrapped up a few weeks of reading different types of procedures. Students enjoyed reading instructions for board games and playing the games correctly from comprehending the rules as a team.
This week we began a literature study on Matilda by Roald Dahl. Students have been focusing on thinking within the text by listing any new vocabulary and thinking beyond the text by making deeper text connections. We will continue to use Matilda to practice and grow our comprehension strategies over the next few weeks.
Writing-
Students in Year 3 have enjoyed procedural writing, particularly when they got to follow steps to make paper planes and fly these out in the yard. They have also written and published procedural texts on topics of their choice.
This week we are doing ‘Quick Writes’ on a range of different topics. ‘Quick writes ,’allow students to brainstorm ideas then select an idea to develop. Students have a choice of what they want to write whether it be a report, poem, narrative etc. Students are thoroughly enjoying have more control and freedom over what they write.
Mathematics-
Students are continuing to work on Chance and Data activities. Over the next week students will create a survey question, record results and graph the data, reflecting their results.
Inquiry-
This week we begin researching famous world explorations and what life was like in 19th Century England. This will lead to learning about convict life on the First Fleet.
Religion-
We are continuing our Source of Life Unit on Creation. This week we are looking at the scripture story of Creation, from here we will move into creating a video of the Creation story using the song ‘In the Beginning,’ by Andrew Chinn.
