Kurunjang Students Compete at Regional Chess Tournament
Following the success of our recent school-based Chess Tournament, 23 students represented the school at the Regional Chess Competition held last Tuesday 1st July at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School in Keilor.
Throughout the day, students competed in seven challenging rounds against strong teams from a range of schools, including Mazenod College, Bacchus Marsh College, Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar, Lakeview Senior College, and Keilor Downs College.
Our players showed great determination and resilience, especially when matched against some very talented opponents. After a few early rounds to find their rhythm, Kurunjang students began to build confidence and secure some impressive wins.
As a team, Kurunjang finished 6th out of the 10 participating schools—a good result and something our chess players should be extremely proud of.
A special congratulations goes to Neil Rana (8W2), who scored an impressive 4.5 points across the tournament. Neil has qualified for the State Chess Final, which will take place in Kew later this year. Well done, Neil!
