Weekly Values Focus - Respect

Week 5: Footscray West students respect our own and others’ property

At our school, we take care of the things we use and share. Respecting property means looking after our own belongings, other people’s belongings, and the spaces we all enjoy together. Whether it is sports equipment, library books, classroom materials, play equipment, or someone’s special item from home, we show respect by treating these things carefully and responsibly. When we look after property, we help make our school a safe, happy, and welcoming place for everyone.

We can show respect for property in many simple ways each day. We can return equipment to the right place, clean up after ourselves, use materials carefully, and share fairly so others can enjoy them too. If something belongs to someone else, we remember that it may be very important to them, even if it is not something we would choose ourselves. Respect means thinking about how we would feel if our own belongings were damaged, lost, or treated carelessly. Small actions like carrying things carefully, packing away properly, and asking before borrowing all show respect.

Respecting property also means caring for our school environment. We can do this by putting rubbish in the bin, looking after gardens and trees, and helping keep classrooms and playgrounds clean and tidy. Our buildings, furniture, and equipment are shared by everyone, so we all have a part to play in taking care of them. When we work together to look after our school, it becomes a place we can all feel proud of.

This week, think about the way you use and care for the things around you. Are you returning items neatly? Are you helping keep our spaces clean? Are you treating other people’s belongings with care? Small choices like these make a big difference and show respect for our whole community.
