Our recent Trivia Night was a great opportunity for our community to come together, dressed up in their favourite Prom outfit. It was a wonderful night filled with fun, laughter and dancing. It was also an opportunity to raise some important funds for our new Kitchen Garden (refer link below for the architectural drawings). The event was a great success with $8,914.29 profit being raised.

The Member for Kew and the Opposition Leader, Jess Wilson, recently offered a speech competition for all schools in the local area. Of the 10 candidates in Year 5/6 at OLGC who participated in the competition, Oliver P was voted the winner. Oliver then represented our school by delivering his speech at Parliament House. Oliver wrote about his safety concerns in Balwyn North. It was a very proud moment for Oliver, his family and for our school. 

Recently our school hosted another two Chess Tournaments. At the Girls Tournament, OLGC came 4th out of 11 schools and our highest ranked student was Izzy in Year 4 who placed 26th.  At the Open Primary Tournament, Prep to Year 6, OLGC came 7th out of 12 schools and our highest ranked student was Jason in Year 4 who placed 33rd. Look out for more tournaments coming up in Term 4, as well as our lunchtime and Sunday Chess Clubs. 

During Book Week, our children enjoyed a week full of fun activities to celebrate children's literature, reading, authors and illustrators. Thank you to Mrs Scarfo, our Literacy Leader for organising visits from two authors and the Masked Reader activities. 

To celebrate Father's Day, our Parent's Association organised a stall of Father's Day gifts for the children to purchase for their dad or special person in their lives. Also, the school hosted a cooked breakfast to celebrate all of our dads and special friends. Thank you to the Parent's Association, parent helpers as well as to the staff. The breakfast always concludes with a basketball match between the Year 6 students and their dads or special friends followed by a Kahoot quiz about our school. The Year 6 students were victorious on this occasion.

Recently, some of our Year 6 students celebrated their final Sacrament of Initiation being the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victories in Camberwell with Bishop Tinh, our Parish Priest Father Sang and Assistant Priest Father Ian. Thank you also to Katarina Steele from our Parish for her coordination of the Mass and preparation of the children in conjunction with our Year 6 Teacher, Miss Annabelle Boyhan and Religious Education Leader, Mr Stu Andreou-Mill. 

Our Year 2/3 Aerobics Team recently competed at the National Aerobics Championships at Gold Coast in Queensland after qualifying as the Victorian Champions. Our school came 6th in the Nation which is a fantastic result. Thank you to our amazing coach Miss Lauren Sammut for all her hard work and dedication. For her contribution to the sport, Lauren was nominated for the 2026 Boroondara Youth Award and was a finalist in the volunteer category. 

Also, I would like to thank Jake King, one of our parents, and the JB Group for sponsoring our Aerobics National Team with new uniforms for the competition. 

As part of our Intergenerational Program, our Year 5 students visited Trinity Manor Balwyn Aged Care. The students sang songs from our recent school production and conversed with the residents. This program aims to support our students in becoming more confident, having stronger empathy and providing new perspectives. The benefits for the residents include a reduced feeling of isolation, better brain health, renewed purpose and physical vitality. This is a new initiative for our school in becoming more outward facing and community minded. 

Term 3 ended with our School Production titled 'In My Life' which was a compilation of songs from a range of musicals about growing up, family, friends and happiness. The night was a huge success where all students across the school had an opportunity to participate and shine. It was a great example of inclusion and celebration. Thank you to Genazzano FCJ College for the use of their Madeleine Centre for Music and Performing Arts.
