YEAR PREP - TWO EXCURSION - THE MELBOURNE MUSEUM
This week, our Junior School students enjoyed an exciting and educational excursion to the Melbourne Museum as part of their Biological Sciences learning this term. This experience will set the scene for the students' further investigations into animals, their features and their habitats, exploring how living things survive and interact with their environments.
The excursion provided a wonderful opportunity for students to deepen their understanding through hands-on experiences and real-world learning. During their visit, students explored four engaging exhibitions: Our Wondrous Planet, Bugs, the Forest Gallery, and Melbourne Story. Each exhibition offered unique insights into the natural world, biodiversity, ecosystems and the important relationships between animals and their habitats.
Â
Students were highly engaged throughout the day, asking thoughtful questions, making connections to their classroom learning and discovering fascinating facts about the world around them. The excursion was a valuable extension of our science inquiry and helped bring students' learning to life in an authentic and memorable way.
Â
Thank you to the many parents who attended this excursion and also those who offered to be there. We are always so overwhelmed with the support of parents and their willingness to take part in these wonderful experiences. I'm sure many of you will be happy to join the students at the Melbourne Zoo later this term!
Â

🌱 Grade 3/4 STEM – Designing Productive Farms
This term, our Grade 3/4 students are exploring the question:Â How do we design a farm that produces what we need?
Students have begun investigating what plants need to grow by planting seedlings and observing how factors such as sunlight, water and soil affect their growth.
Over the coming weeks, they will collect evidence through regular observations and measurements, using what they learn to inform the farm designs they will create later this term.

GARDENING
A big thank you to the students in One/Two G, who rolled up their sleeves this week to help care for our school garden by replanting our parsley into larger planter boxes. By giving the plants more space to grow, the students have helped create improved conditions for a healthier and more productive parsley patch. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and teamwork as they took on this hands-on gardening task.Â

BOOK WEEK 2026
This year the Children's Book Council of Australia's (CBCA) Book Week Theme is Symphony of Stories. This wonderful image has been specially created for Book Week by author, illustrator and composer, Matt Ottley. At St Michael's School, we will hold our Book Week Parade on Monday 24th August, 9am and we invite children to come dressed as any book character they would like. Our focus for Book Week is always for children to delve deeply into the books and characters that they love and hopefully learn a little about other children's interests as well.
