Cheltenham v Avenues

In the last week of Term 2, Squad 59 travelled to Adelaide to compete in 26 events against Avenues College. Over the week, both colleges experienced triumphs and defeats, testing our abilities and strengthening the growing bond between our colleges. 

On behalf of our squad, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the organisers, specifically Mr Sanders and Ms Hargreaves, and the teachers who volunteered their time to take us or coach us, both during the week and for training over the last few months. Your hard work and dedication ensured the event ran smoothly, and it wouldn’t be possible without all of you. 

Grace: For me, the highlight was the moment we found out we won the Captain's Plate; everyone was so excited and it was great seeing all our hard work pay off in both the ball games and in running relay. I would also like to acknowledge how well our Junior Squad members did during the week, specifically Darcy, who took 5 wickets in indoor cricket. 

Mo: For me, the highlight was seeing both squads working together both during and in between events, as well as seeing the friendships created from the exchange. Another great moment was the music squad winning both smalls and larges for the third year in a row.

For anyone thinking about trying out next year, definitely do it. The Exchange is one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences offered at Cheltenham, nay the world, so everyone should consider trying out, regardless if you think you will make it in or not. 

Finn: My highlight of the week was Harrison Smith giving birth during dramatic games while simultaneously trying to find out where a wedding was.

To our fellow squad members, we thank you for all of your hard work, enthusiasm, spirit and unwavering support for one another. For the first time in 17 years, the Cheltenham squad brought back all 3 of the trophies. 

But the week was more than that. It was an incredible experience that has reminded us that the Exchange is not just about the competition, but about the friendships formed, memories created and the importance of the values of respect and cooperation which embody the spirit of the Exchange. 

It has been an honour to be your 2026 captains. We could not be more proud, and we can’t wait to see what you all achieve in the Exchanges to come.

Ross Smith Medal - Congrats Finn!

A big congratulations to Finn Rawlinson for being the recipient of the Ross Smith Medal. This award is afforded to those who exhibit our school values before, during and after the Avenues Exchange each year: Respect, Responsibility, Personal Best and Sense of Community.

Hargreaves and Sanders would like to thank all of Squad 59 for their beautiful gifts and kind words. The squad, indeed, made us both very proud to be a part of this great event. While the trophies are nice to look at, we are more proud of each and every squad member for their sportsmanship and team work, their passion for the Exchange, and above all, their kindness and respect for everyone at Avenues College. 

Thank you to our amazing staff, college parents and siblings, as well as the former students, who joined us at Avenues College to support the team. Congratulations to our Cheltenham award winners.

In 2027, Cheltenham Secondary College will be hosting the 60th Exchange between our schools and we can't wait to celebrate this extraordinary milestone.
