Year 3-4 Classroom Update
Lots has been happening in Year 3/4 this term! In Health we have been learning about a balanced diet and the importance of making healthy food choices. We are in the process of creating presentations to share our messages of healthy eating with the other classes. This term in Geography we are learning about Australia and Australia’s neighbouring countries, focusing on natural and human made landmarks.
In Maths, we have been learning about mass and are now focusing on data. We are learning how to collect, collate and represent data in a variety of ways.
In Sport, we have been learning and participating in Taekwondo, as well as the skills required for cricket. We have been very adaptable and have started playing a game of cricket as best as we can under the COLA. We are looking forward to playing a game on the oval when we can.
Currently in CAPA we are focusing on a Cyber Dance unit where we are being inspired by the Just Dance to create our own style of this dance. We are looking forward to performing this finalised dance that we have choreographed as a class next week.
In English we have read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr and Malala’s Magical Pencil by Malala Yousafzai. We have learned about the true stories behind the books and have analysed the themes and purpose of these texts. We have been reflecting on these books and written our own informative and factual texts focusing on relevant language features and structures. We have been inspired by Malala’s Magic Pencil and thought about if we had a magic pencil what we would draw to make the world a better place. We covered topics like war, racism, bullying, poverty and hunger.
Here is what Hannah would do:
My Magic Pencil: If I had a magic pencil, I would make the world a better place by stopping racism.Because it can make people feel bad about themselves, make them feel less confident and make them not want to be free and make them feel like they can’t do things because of their colour. It would change the world by people being nice to each other no matter what colour you are.
Here is what Rebee would do:
My Magic Pencil: If I had a magic pencil would make the world a better place by drawing lots of schools for free. So kids that cannot afford or can’t go to school could and get an education. So that all kids can get a job when they are older.
Here is what Shaun would do:
My Magic Pencil: If I had a magic pencil I would try to stop war so there can be peace and no fighting. Then I would make the world a better place by drawing a peace dove.
Here is what Harriet would do:
My Magic Pencil: If I had a magical pencil I would make the world a better place by drawing money and people sharing money. It would change the world by erasing poverty. It is important because people don’t deserve to be homeless.
