Performing Arts Centre Opens at ASHS

It was a pleasure to attend the opening of the new Performing Arts Centre at Albany Senior High School, which was officially opened on August 25 by Premier Roger Cook and Education Minister, Dr Tony Buti.

This $9 million project has delivered a performing arts centre with retractable seating for 200 and space for an additional 50 loose seats if required, plus a large stage, green room, storerooms, a foyer and specialist music facilities.

Albany Senior High School has a long-standing tradition of performing arts and music, with a strong music and ensemble programme. In 2022-23, the State Government invested $595 million in education infrastructure

Investing in Health in Albany

During his visit, I was very pleased to show Premier Roger Cook the recently opened Radiation Oncology Centre at the Albany Health Campus.  The Cook Labor Government has made record investments to strengthen and improve the health system in regional WA.

In Albany we have delivered:

  • New radiation oncology services at the Albany Health Campus;
  • Funding to build a new Albany Dental Clinic that will double its capacity;
  • A trial of a new face-to-face public neurology service at Albany Health Campus;
  • 100 additional parking bays at Albany Health Campus; and
  • Permanent BreastScreen Clinic at the corner of North Road and Barnesby Drive.

Touring Albany with Premier Cook

During his visit, I took the Premier Roger Cook to visit the new Albany Volunteer State Emergency Service headquarters, Southern Regional TAFE and fantastic local businesses, Paperbark Merchants, BredCo and Espresso One.

Our emergency services workers do an outstanding job, volunteering their time to help the community when it needs it most. It was a fantastic opportunity to thank our vollies for their dedication and check out the new facilities we helped to deliver last year.

At Southern Regional TAFE campus, I showed the Premier the new trade site which will deliver more space and modern training facilities to help local students reach their full potential.  Valued at $22.17 million, these cutting-edge workshops will provide top-notch training in automotive, metals and engineering, and electrical and plumbing trades.

Rhiannon at BredCo showed the Premier how they mill local grains to produce their breads and pastries.  At Espresso One, the Premier enjoyed a steak sandwich and Cosi put the Premier to work behind his coffee machine.

Great Southern Grammar visits Parliament

It was a pleasure to host Year Eleven students from Great Southern Grammar at The Parliament of Western Australia.

The students joined Jane Kelsbie, Member for Warren-Blackwood and I for lunch and a tour of Parliament.  I don’t get many student groups visit from Albany, so I thank the students and staff for taking the time to visit.

Happy 100th Birthday to David!

It was an absolute pleasure to visit one of my constituents, David, who celebrated his 100th Birthday in August at Clarence Estate.  David was enjoying celebrating with his family and other residents.

Kidsport Programme Doubled

Fantastic news! The Cook Government is making sport accessible to more Western Australian children, and further relieving cost-of-living pressures on families, by doubling the amount of financial assistance available per child through the popular KidSport voucher programme.
