Athletics Sports

Our annual school Athletics Sports are a major focus in term 1 and our students have been training well in Physical Education classes with Mr Watt and Mrs Stewart to increase their speed and refine their techniques for the various running, throwing and jumping activities.  Our students in Years 1 to 6 were scheduled to take place on Monday however as communicated via XUNO yesterday, we have re-scheduled this event to Wednesday of next week (March 4th) due to the poor weather forecast.  Students will be transported to Mitchell Park by bus on what we hope will be more pleasant and safer weather conditions to conduct the various running activities for all involved.

On Thursday the field events will take place at school for all students, with Prep to Year 2 participating from 9:10 to 11:10am, then Years 3 to 6 from 11:40am to 1:40pm.  We will then have a short lunch break before the running events (sprints and hurdles) will take place for students in the 5/6 Years age group, and then the relays for all year levels.

Our Athletics Sports are a highly anticipated event on our calendar and we look forward to many parents attending over the two days to cheer on our athletes as they give their all to earn points for their house groups – Glenelg (Green), Grange (Blue), Nigretta (Red) and Wannon (Yellow).

School Netball

This term we have 42 students representing Gray Street in the Hamilton Netball Association Junior Competition taking place each Saturday, spread across our three Year 3/4 and two Year 5/6 teams.  All teams have started the season well, with some great team play taking place.  All matches are played at the Pedrina Park Netball Complex with the third round of games takes place tomorrow morning, with a break next weekend due to the Labour Day long weekend.  Thank you to the coaches, team managers and umpires who are giving their time to support our students and also to Mrs Stewart who has assisted me with coordinating the involvement of our school.  Wishing our students all the best for their remaining matches.

South West Division Swimming Championships

Earlier today we had three students, Sophie in Year 4 (9/10 Year Girls), Richie in Year 5 (11 Year Boys) and Gus in Year 6 (12/13 Year Boys) participate in the Division Swimming Championships at Aquazone in Warrnambool, with 327 swimmers entered across the various events coming from the Portland, Hamilton and Warrnambool Districts.  Whilst we don’t yet know the results of these students at the time of going to print we trust they enjoyed the experience and represented our school well at this higher level of competition – a great effort just to qualify!

Hamilton District Sports Association “Hot Shots” Tennis

Yesterday we took a team of 9 tennis players to the Hamilton Tennis Club to participate in the local “Hot Shots” tennis qualifying event.  Our team of Oscar, Archie, Oliver, Richie (Year 5) and Harvey, Jobe, Gus, Sophie and Georgia (Year 6) competed in the Boys/Mixed category and following a narrow loss and then two convincing wins, were the overall winners following the round robin matches.  All 9 students played great tennis throughout the course of the day, with this being the first year that the “Hot Shots” tennis format has been utilised, involving modified courts and equipment in a team format.  Our students through their strong performance have now qualified for the Division tournament however this is unfortunately taking place next Thursday, the same day as our school Athletics Sports, and on this occasion, we are unable to participate.  Congratulations to all students who were a pleasure to take away and represent our school.
