Year 3 /4 Newsletter Snapshot

This term, Year 3/4 JM has been reading the text Brindabella. Brindabella tells the story of a young kangaroo whose mother is killed by hunters. She is later rescued by a young boy named Pender, who cares for her and helps her recover.  Throughout the term, students have been exploring character perspectives and examining how authors use animals to portray human thoughts, feelings and actions in stories.

We hope you enjoy reading some snippets of our diary entries written from Brindabella’s perspective.

One day I was safe and warm in my mother’s pouch. Unexpectedly, a big silver bullet shot my mum and I was stuck in my mother’s pouch. (Harvey)

When I first saw Pender, I felt confused because I didn’t know what was going on. (Toby)

Brindabella loved her tail because she thought it was strong and beautiful, as it crashed down in the dust. (Nia) 

Dear Diary,

Today I had a big drink of milk and I got into this comfy thing. I felt scared because I am not with my mother. (Brianna) 

Today a hunter shot my Mum and a boy called Pender walked up to me and carried me in a box. (Will)

Dear diary,

Today a weird boy came up to me and took me. I scratched and kicked, but he didn’t care. (Elena)

Dear diary,

Today I had a strange day. My mother was not moving. I saw Pender and I didn’t really feel that safe, but he didn’t hurt me. (Ivy)

When I first saw Pender, I felt scared because I didn’t know what was going on. (Audrey) 

Today I was resting in my pouch when BANG! I dropped to the ground. I tried to escape, but I had no luck. (Jeronimo) 

I was in my mother’s pouch, but then BANG! My mother dropped to the ground. I couldn’t get out. (Remy)

Today, something weird happened! I was enjoying every second of my life until….. (Darcy)

Today, a complete weirdo picked me up, so I started to kick and scratch. A stranger picked me up and put me in something. (Ollie) 

When I first saw Pender, I felt scared because he could be a hunter. I wasn’t sure if I could trust Pender because he could be mean. (Valentina)

When I got picked up by Brindabella, I was very scared, and I did not know what was going to happen. (Kip)
